Just in Time for the 500: TW Steel Launches Dario Franchitti Edition
Based on TW Steel's TECH design, the Dario Franchitti Edition was produced in collaboration with the two-time IndyCar Series Champion and 2007 Indianapolis 500 winner. The watch features blue, green and red highlights – Franchitti's helmet colors, reflecting the Scottish and Italian flags that symbolize his heritage. The red 10 represents Franchitti’s number during his 2009 IndyCar season and the green 2 and 7 represent the number 27 he wore during his 2007 Indy 500 win. Franchitti’s name appears in blue on the tachymeter ring while his logo, signature and title successes feature on the case-back.TW Steel celebrated the launch during qualifying weekend with a cocktail event in Indianapolis, where guests mingled with Franchitti, IndyCar star Scott Dixon, and IndyCar legend Arie Luyendyk. The watch is offered in 45mm and 48mm sizes and it will be available in mid-July with suggested retail prices of $850 (45mm) and $895 (48mm). Time Relic: Certina Watch Featuring Saddam Hussein On eBay
Here is an interesting and rare find that will likely appeal to collectors of dictator paraphernalia. A Certina brand watch with a happy little picture of the now dead former Iraq leader Saddam Hussein. The Certina brand is controlled by the powerful Swatch Group who is now using Certina as a means of releasing classically styled sports watches such as the Certina DS-1 and DS square. This Certina watch was liked commissioned by the Iraqi embassy and was reportedly distributed in 2001 in Warsaw Poland during a political delegation. Interest groups, associations, and companies will often commission self branded or designated watches to commemorate an event or affiliation. This just happens to be a particularly macabre example given the history and reputation of the reign of Saddam Hussein.Saddam Hussein was actually known for being very fond of placing images of himself on all types of watches and clocks. While very rare in the Western world, there are Rolex and other fine watches strewn
I almost bought an Omega today...
So I went to visit a local deal with the full intention of walking home with a new watch today. I hadn't quite made up my mind yet but I figured that between the new Omega Speedmaster Chrono Cal 9300, the Plofproof 1200m and the Planet Ocean 42mm Cal 8500 I would surely find one that sang to me.Started off with the Speedy Chrono: the bracelet rattled and the whole experience wasn't very solid. The matte dial is beautiful and I normally really like the look of two side-by-side registers/sub-dials, but when you see this model in real life they do sit a bit too far out towards the edge of the dial and they probably should have been slightly larger. And then the watch is thick, thick, thick due to the see-through back. Bummer, but who cares, let's move on to the next one.The new Planet Ocean. Some say better than the SubC - I'm looking forward to this one. The feel is a lot more solid than the Speedy. Great start. Matte dial. Check. Feels good on the wrist, overall a good size watch for my
First Patek, I want something iconic..
Hello gents! I am about to open Pandora's box and dive into the world of Patek. For my first piece, I would want something iconic and in yellow gold.. I have narrowed down my choices to the 5119J and the 5196J. Just wanted to ask the opinion of the experts as to which Calatrava model best represents the brand. Kinda like what the 5513 is to Rolex (my favorite watch of all time).Cheers and many thanks!!!
