AP Concept and Tourbillon Thread
I've rekindled my love for the brand and am thinking as part of my consolidation efforts of going for a really high end AP. Obviously, I'd have to buy right and carefully, but I like the idea of being stuck in a piece and not able to flip every few months as I have with more temptingly liquid references. The concepts and tourbs don't get too much talk around here, but if anyone has any experience or impressions, I'd love the insight!
Eating at Five Guys is not just bad for your waistline
So this past weekend against my better judgement I decide to stop in to the local Five Guys to indulge in a burger for lunch. All is good until I leave and the door which was clearly set with too much tension decides to smack back on me while exiting and naturally has to wack my AP Diver. I don't baby my watches as can be seen from the other small marks on the watch but I nearly cried when I saw the damage near the bezel screw at 1 o'clock. Not to minimize the love for my AP Diver vs another watch BUT I had my PP Aquanaut 5167 in my hand that morning and I decided on wearing the Diver instead. Marks like this are never good on ANY watch but the door probably would have completely ruined the Aquanaut. I think this mark is going to drive me nuts so the watch will likely go to Clearwater much earlier than it would have normally.
Which one should be purchased first in your opinion?
5131G or 5270G? Eventually I hope to have both, but i'm in a dilemma that which one I should go first.I know 5131G is on grey market for double it's retail, but still around 10% cheaper than the 5270G.What do you guys think? Thanks.Salih
First Time Buyer at AD: Some Questions
I normally always buy watches second hand as I typically buy vintage watches or rarely if its a modern peice I'll wait to avoid the often massive depreciation a first time buyer gets hit with. This has changed having seen the Panerai Luminor Due 38mm (PAM755) release at SIHH, I'm smitten and pretty much resigned to the fact I'll need to head to an AD.I've read about the hype surrounding recent Rolex releases and I'm wondering if it can be similar for Panerai: 1. Do new releases often have large waiting lists at ADs? 2. Do ADs often offer discounts on brand new releases? (I've read boutiques don't, best is normally a strap thrown in) 3. Do you expect much hype around this watch? 4. How quickly do watches normally flow through to 2nd hand markets? 5. Does the country you purchase effect any of the above (I can buy the watch in Austrlaia or UK)?
New Releases for PCYC - PAM652, PAM653, PAM654
Not sure if you guys have seen these yet but what do you think about the new releases for the Panerai Classic Yacht Challenge? Looks like they took a lot of inspiration from the Radiomir 1940 chrono's from a few years back. The PAM652 is a 47mm Titanium Regatta Flyback while the PAM653 & PAM654 are 44mm Steel Versions with just the Flyback functionality.
