This year at SIHH we saw a lot of releases from Cartier. The Drive for men was big news, but one new release you may not have seen yet is the Cartier Hypnose. This collection is the latest addition to Cartier's women's line. While the oval case shape is not new for Cartier, they have managed to reinvent it in fresh and modern way. 1 OF 8 First, a little background on the Hypnose and its shape. Although this is a “new” watch, it is by no means a new design for Cartier. The oval design was first created by Louis Cartier in 1912, and the the oval-form watch was later put into production in 1956. The design was recognizable by its balanced oval shape and the bulbous nature of the the bezel. Hi all, I’ve been a Rolex Lover forever, but I’ve flipped and sold so many that I’m tired of them now. Don’t get me wrong I love them but just fancy something different so I cleared my collection (partially) and am making room for an AP ROO 26470ST.OO. I wanted to get opinions of owning such a watch vs a Rolex Daytona or sport Rolex by an AP vet who can comment on fit, finish, feel, reliability, value etc. are they expensive to service and can dings and scartches be easily polished out?If anyone can chime in would really appreciate it! What’s a good price to pay for an AP elephant ROO? Are they easy to sell vs a Rolex and do they go up in price like Rolex do?Thanks in advance to all that chime in. Hi guys, my first thread in the AP forum! I'm a long time AP fan who lusted after a white faced ROO chronograph back in 2005, and when I looked again they had jumped up in price too far for my taste. Given the list price is now ��18k I wiped the thought of AP from my mind... until I wandered into this forum one fateful day and found the Diver Appreciation Thread! Wow! An amazing looking watch which didn't just sing to me it ORCHESTRATED!!! So I started reading and learning more about the watch and the amazing 3120 movement and suddenly I realise, I'm in love! This is bad news given that I just bought 2 watches already this year and told the wife I was now done! Needless to say the hearts and minds work has begun. In the interim I thought I better go and try it on in the metal. All I can say is wowed! My son was smitten too, and said I need the FC too! The most accurate wristwatch ever?
Came across this little bit of info earlier this week, thought I'd share it.Once again, it shows just how well-made some of the brands that are considered 'low-end' are.The Citizen Citizen Crystron Mega or 'Mega Quartz'. c.1975!Considered by many as the most accurate wristwatch. Whilst most quartz watches were within 15seconds per month, the citizen mega quartz/Citizen Crystron Mega was accurate to 3 seconds per year. Per year, people!A bit of info on it's 'thermocompensated' quartz movement:Stability in a quartz watch's rate, comes down to the cycles/beats of its resonator, the quartz crystal. Apparently, the crystal actually moves, many many thousand times per second. The fact that they have such a high oscillation rate negate traditional factors that effect a rate, ie: arm movement, watch position, gravity and so on. However, one small drawback appears to be that it is affected slightly by temperate, which has been the greatest cause of rate difference in quartz watches. One way of
