Baselworld 2015: 21 Tidbits About Basel
In March, 150,000 people will flock to Basel, Switzerland, for the world's largest watch show, Baselworld. Our gang, of course, will be among them. Because of the frenzied pace of the show, most Baselworld visitors don't get to see much of the city. That's a pity because there is a lot more to it than the show.?My first visit was more than 35 years ago. For those of you attending the fair, here are some things to know about what's beyond the watch halls.1. Tennis legend Roger Federer was born and raised in Basel. He has called it one of the most beautiful cities in the world. That's a homer's view. But it does have beautiful spots, especially in the Old Town and in places along the Rhine.Roger Federer is a Basel native.2. Basel is Switzerland's third largest city after Zurich and Geneva. But it is not big. The total population was 172,000 in 2013.3. Don't be confused by the different spellings of the city's name. Depending on the language, they are all correct: Basel (American Englis

The following timepiece analysis post is by Chris Meisenzahl. He is a long-time watch enthusiast and daily Speedmaster Pro wearer. He blogs at The Pretense of Knowledge and can be followed on Twitter at twitterwatches-dealer/speedmaster.I remember several years ago I was part of a thread on one of the popular watch forums. I commented that it was too bad we weren't alive during the 40s-60s, what I had considered the "Golden Age" of mechanical watches. It seemed like back then, of course, all watches were mechanical, and most seemed quite affordable, even considering inflation. But another poster quickly set me right. He pointed out that were were living in the Golden Age of mechanical watches right now! After a few moments of consideration I realized he was absolutely correct.A strong argument could be made that we live in a Golden Age of mechanical watches now. We have the ultra-high-end brands such as MB&F, Patek, Lange, De Bethune, etc. We have independents such as Roger Smith,

DaytonaC Desperation
I am lucky in that I have this.........But I am absolutely desperate for the black dial to go with it. So I just wanted to say even though I have a lovely white dial Daytona I still feel the pain of not being able to get, at retail pricing, the next watch I want.I also want the new Rolex Pepsi and BB58 but the Daytona is the one I cannot stop thinking about!
Who else has used a Rolex as motivation?
Good people of the Rolex Forums.....Who else has used a Rolex as motivation for accomplishing a goal? I have been drawn to these beautiful watches for the past decade but have not found that I have earned one yet. I view the Rolex as a symbol of status and accomplishment and although I have surpassed many milestones (including promotions, credentials, etc) I haven't been able to feel I have earned it yet...Needless to say, after nearly a decade I have my heart set on the exact Rolex I want and set out very specific goals for me this year to accomplish and once done, to buy that son of a gun. I would love to hear of other stories or inputs from you where you used a Rolex as motivation and your success stories?
