Patek Philippe's biggest announcement at Baselworld 2016 was a new world time chronograph: the reference 5930. We had a chance to spend some time with it in the hand, and on the wrist, and we've formulated some first impressions of this new flagship complicated watch from one of the world's most famous, and most intensely scrutinized, luxury watch companies. 1 OF 7 We've already talked a bit about the history of the movement in the new reference 5930, so we'll just recap briefly: the base caliber is the self-winding chronograph caliber CH 28-520, which was first used by Patek Philippe in the annual calendar chronograph 5960P (P for platinum) in 2006. This was Patek's first ever in-house self-winding chronograph, and the base movement, according to Patek, is 33 mm x 4.9 mm (that is, the chronograph mechanism alone, absent the annual calendar plate). I've been looking at the Speedy for a while and the time was right to finally make the addition. I would love to add to the already stellar reputation of DavidSW for a completely flawless transaction. Less than 24 hours from the time payment was made to delivery. I have a chance to purchase a gently-used Omega Seamaster Bond 007 2537.80.00 Limited Edition watch for $900.00.Seller has no problem accompanying me to an Omega AD for inspection.Assuming that all is good, should I jump on the deal?..I know VERY little about Omegas.....Your help would be gratefully appreciated. 5167a & 5167r
Mates -- I currently have a 5167a rubber and a few Calatravas. I have concluded that leather straps on the Calatravas and the complication pieces I've tried on are very uncomfortable to me and the rubber, although not the most elegant, has become a super comfortable strap in all types of weather (Disclaimer :: I cannot wear any leather strap watch in hot or humid weather. I have found it can only be worn in wintertime which is limiting. Even after going to the gym in the winter, I cannot put a leather strap back on for two hours since I always sweat). Anyway, the point is I'm looking at a 5167R but want opinions if it is too redundant or overlapping with my existing 5167A. I would be selling the Calatravas but not to fund the R piece. If they aren't going to be worn in comfort then there is no point keeping them IMO. Thanks for the feedback.
