Ladoire Roller Guardian Time – The UFO of Watchmaking?
Lionel Ladoire launched his eponymous company in 2007 and his first timepiece is an audacious effort. He refers to it as the UFO of watchmaking, and the company’s press materials acknowledge that this piece leaves no one indifferent. It may not come as a surprise that Ladoire is a surfer and a rock drummer as well as a talented young watchmaker. If you saw him on the street, you would not think “I bet he’s a horologist.” Others claim to be nonconformists; Ladoire walks the walk. Ladoire’s creation is called the Roller Guardian Time, or RGT, and at 56 x 45 x 16.3mm, this uniquely-shaped timepiece makes a striking statement on the wrist. The shape has been likened to that of a pebble, and the analogy is apt. The asymmetric shape is soft, organic, and surprisingly balanced. The automatic movement with micro-rotors is an in-house design realized with the help of skilled outside partners. Though it may not be obvious at first glance, the watch has only one trad
Rubber B for Audemars Piguet Royal Oak
I just got the email from Rubber B about this new strap. I have to say that I'm exited for this one, but I feel like I was on the waiting list forever. The best part is that I won't need to buy any plots or conversion kits. The strap just fits right into the case. These pictures are from their email. I will post mine & give feedback as soon as I receive & install it sometime next week. ( I Hope! )
Resetting the sweep hand??
My red-tipped sweep hand is stopping about 2 seconds before the 12:00 reset position. I know there is a way to manually 'hack' it to reset it. Does anyone remember what to do? Thanks.
5565a - Thoughts (part two)
Ok - so I also came across this 5565a. Again the first I have seen of this watch. And I have to say I like it. A lot. Apparently it was a special edition to commemorate the reopening of the Geneva salon. It's 36mm which isn't overly small in my opinion. The dial is simple yet elegant with a sporty flair. I have not heard it mentioned on this site. So again - what does TRF think?
Ref 2499
just in case you didn't catch this hodinkee article, i thought i'd post it here. pretty interesting how a few details can be the difference between $314,000 and $2,750,760 for the same reference.Yesterday in Geneva, Christie's watch department held its spring sale. It made over $32 million dollars, with four inidividual lots bringing in over $2 million each. The Breguet Resonance pocket watch that we showed you previously went for an amazing $4.68m, while the enamel Patek world timer that we showed you here went for over $2.9. But, one watch we didn't show you, a Patek Philippe 2499 in pink gold is the focus of this post, because it seems so simple, and yet it sold for over $2.7million. So, what made this 2499 so special when compared to, say, your average, run of the mill 2499 like this, also in yesterday's sale, that made only $314,000? The devil is in the details, my friends. What made this particular 2499 so valuable is a perfect storm of rare traits. First, is a 'first serie
