Baselworld 2015: The Movado 1881 Collection
At Baselworld this year, Movado showed its all-new collection of men’s automatic watches. The 1881 Automatic Collection combines familiar Movado design characteristics with elements of the brand’s revamped look �C all with a reliable Swiss movement inside.The 1881 Automatic is a three-hand watch with a date display at 6 o’clock. It has the spare, stark appeal that has characterized Movado ever since the “Museum” watch became the centerpiece of the brand in the 1980s. That watch, and those that followed it, were defined by the prominent concave dot at 12 o’clock. In recent years, Movado has moved beyond this completely minimalist design to incorporate some other elements on the dial.The 1881 Automatic is a good example of this: it has a subdued minutes track, which has been stamped on the dial, and applied hour indexes. Omega Speedmaster: Present Day
Speedys in the movies (and TV). Speedmaster, the early years. Graduation to the Professional ranks. Electronic, quartz, and other Speedmaster variations. We've seen a lot of the Speedmaster over the last few articles, and it brings us to the present day.For sure, Omega knows what they have in their heritage. Along with creating new models, the last few years have seen Omega releases in the form of updates to venerable models of the past. These include several models from the Seamaster line, Broad Arrow models, the PloProf, and the Bullhead. The Speedmaster line includes the First Omega In Space homage to Wally Schirra's Mercury Sigma7 mission watch and the new MK II. And most of these reinterpretations carry the new co-axial escapement which the late George Daniels kindly provided the horological world.A quick check of the Omega website shows 13 major Speedmaster models.
