Vacheron Constantin Adds 14-Day Tourbillon to its Platinum Collection
In 2006, Vacheron Constantin became the first watch brand to dedicate an entire collection to platinum timepieces. This year, the venerable brand adds a version of its Patrimony Traditionnelle 14-Day Tourbillon to its Collection Excellence Platine.Like other watches in Vacheron’s Platinum Collection, the new Patrimony Traditionnelle 14-Day Tourbillon uses 950 platinum considered the noblest of metals, with a purity of 95 percent compared to 75 percent for 18k rose gold for not only its 42-mm case, but also its dial and even the threads in the watch’s leather strap. The elegant, clean dial has slightly off-centered hours and minutes hands, an aperture for the tourbillon at 6 o’clock and a power-reserve indicator at 12 o’clock. The power-reserve display features a “trailing” or “dragging” hand to indicate the remaining energy in the mainspring on an arc-shaped scale that is evenly divided into 14 segments one for each day in the excep
SIHH: IWC Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph
IWC brings the Yacht Club back in the iconic Portuguese case as the 45.4mm Yacht Club Chronograph, the first sporty model in the Portuguese family. The movement is IWC’s manufacture caliber 89360. Its chronograph permits the recording of aggregate times of up to twelve hours on the common counter for the minutes and hours and can be reset to zero via the flyback function at any time while running, so that it is instantly ready to start measuring a new time. Built for sea duty, a screw-in crown and crown protection help protect against the elements, and the case offers 6 bar water resistance. Consistent with the sporty theme, this watch has luminescent indices and hands – a first in the Portuguese family. The Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph is available in three variants:– steel with a silver-plated dial, rhodium-plated luminescent hands and appliqus.– steel with a black dial, silver-plated flange and rhodium-plated hands and appliqus, also luminescent.–
How Software Helps Design Complicated Watches Like The Franck Muller Giga Tourbillon
When it comes to watches, especially mechanical watches, there is no denying that they are incredibly complex miniature machines. Have you wondered how those watches are designed and validated before the first piece of metal is cut? This used to be entirely done by hand with drawings and slow prototyping. However, starting in the 1990s, the watch industry has moved toward using design and engineering software to create everything from cases to movements.SolidWorks is a software suite that many high-end watch makers rely on to design and test movements digitally. In a recent video we can see how a Franck Muller movement design can come together, such as the Giga Gong Tourbillon we're seeing in CAD.Frankly, after watching something like this, it seems almost indescribable that watchmakers were able to advance the craft as they did before the advent of tools like this. ?Of course, it probably involved a lot of trial and error, and fiddly modification of parts - in other words, quite a bit
Help! Grand Prix FC Bezel Damage and now Scratched Crystal -- Help Repair Please!
Dearest All,Attached you can see a pic of my Grand Prix with a nicked up bezel and now a scratch on the glass. I have since been quoted 3K to fix both. Anyone have any good experience with this issue? I am in NYC and looking to either repair, replace with Ceramic bezel, or sell or trade for PP5980.I searched previous forum messages about others who replaced bezel/glass but didn't really find anything. If someone/anyone would please direct and help me, I would GREATLY appreciate! Thanks,Andrew
Going on a customer rewards trip...question?
For those that have been on a employee or customer trip to Cancun. Is wearing a gold DJ too much? Should I tone it down with an Omega, etc.?
