Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra-Thin Minute Repeater Flying Tourbillon "Hybris Mechanica 11" Watch Breaks New Record
Most everything about the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra-Thin Minute Repeater Flying Tourbillon watch is new, including six of the eight patents protecting the movement, the shape of the case that is inspired by a pocket watch from 1907, as well as the achievement the good people at Jaeger-LeCoultre have reached in regard to minimal case thickness for a grand complication watch. Even the beautiful dauphin-style hands are new. In one fell swoop Jaeger-LeCoultre's flagship timepiece for 2014 rewrites the formula for the perfect high-end dress watch. This is the type of watch that keeps us interested in horology and is easily a new grail piece for an entire demographic of watch collectors whose hearts have just skipped a beat. Let's proceed to discussing exactly what is so special about this new ultra-thin automatic minute repeater tourbillon from one of our favorite Swiss watch brands.A New RecordEverything about the design of the watch has a purpose, and we realize that unless you ar
Introducing: The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tourbillon Extra-Thin Openworked, Now In Yellow Gold
Back at SIHH 2012, Audemars Piguet released the Royal Oak Tourbillon Extra-Thin Openworked in platinum. This watch was an instant high-end hit and people (especially people here at HODINKEE) loved it. So you can imagine our excitement to see that AP has re-released the Royal Oak Tourbillon Extra-Thin, now in yellow gold. 1 OF 2 As you may know, Audemars Piguet is known for their openworked watches and the great amount of craftsmanship that goes into each piece is incredible. The first skeletonized AP was created around 1921 (a pocket watch with skeletonized dial) and the first skeletonized Royal Oak was made in 1986 (1993 for the first skeletonized women’s Royal Oak), so they have had plenty of time to perfect the technique. ADVERTISEMENT Just like the original Extra-Thin Tourbillon Openworked, the caliber 2924 movement (which was brand new back in 2012, celebrating 40 years of Royal Oak) is used in the new yellow-gold piece. AP ROC Alinghi City Of Sails, Advice/Info required
Morning AP owners,I am a new member and hopefully an AP owner very soon.I am thinking of purchasing an AP City Of Sails Chronograph in Steel, and I just wanted some information and advice. 1. Why was the rrp so high at the time ($50k), is there any manufacturing process or details apart from the dial that justifies the rrp. The movt is standard and not even in-house.2. Depreciation seems awfully high, I am buying a mint 2003 with box and papers for $11.5k. Is this a model that is not popular because no one wants a 39mm watch as it seems like every manufacturer is making watches above 41mm.3. If you had a choice would you buy a 41mm ROC or 42mm ROO over a ltd edition 39mm.Thanks in advance, and have a good day all.
Omega's Other Icon... Which One is it & Why?
Ok Omega aficionados... here is a question for you. Assuming that the Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch is clearly an Omega Icon (if not The Icon) which model would be next in line and why? I am interested in the different opinions, history, etc...Thanks in advance for the input.
Scratched bezel on steel Nautilus question
I just noticed that I have a VERY small scratch in the flat part (top) of the bezel on my Nautilus 5712A (but the scratch goes across the grain of the metal so it is noticeable to the naked eye if the watch is fingerprint-free and catches the light in a certain way (and not otherwise). I've had the watch for 7 months. Two questions:1) Should I be thrilled that I only have one VERY small scratch after 7 months, or dismayed that it is scratched at all?2) When I have it serviced down the road, should I ask that they polish it, or not touch it?p.s. I wear the watch about 4-6 days a week so I am sure there will be other scratches at some point down the line...
