Should Watch Makers Advertise The Accuracy Of Mechanical Watches?
Research a car, and you'll know its mileage and 0-60 time. Buy a phone, and you'll get information about estimated battery life and how much memory it has. Buy a watch, and you'll rarely have any information as to how accurate it is supposed to be. Of course, anyone can take in their watch to a watchmaker and have its rate results tested or use a device they purchase on their own, but why is it that more watch companies don't make it a point of pride to advertise how accurate their watches are?Installing a balance wheel and upper tourbillon cageBefore I begin a longer conversation on this topic, I want to make it clear that there are some rather compelling reasons why watch makers do not make estimates on accuracy or how well their timepieces will perform C and I'll get to that in more detail a bit later. Nevertheless,?in an industry where things like "chronometry and isochronism" (and related concepts) are discussed all the time in marketing materials, shouldn't watchmakers take a bit
Seiko Active Matrix EPD e-Ink: The Digital Watch Is Back In Style
The digital watch is back. Seiko's new Active Matrix EPD watch will get you excited about non analog quartz timepieces once again. Digital has been here all along you say? Yea, that is true, but no self-respecting watch lover would wear one unless doing the laundry, mowing the lawn, or engaging in some other highly pedestrian activity. Go to any country that is "watch civilized" (sorry fellow Americans, that doesn't include the US at this point), and wear a digital watch in a business meeting or with a suit. Sure that was OK in the 1980s, but that was 20-30 years ago. This new product from Seiko reintroduces you the hassle free lifestyle of the digital watch in a polished, and highly functional little package. The holy trinity here is a great display, always accurate time, and a battery that does not need changing. Read on for all that it does below.Seiko more or less invented the formal digital watch in the late 1970s. You know, decent looking metal case and bracelet matched with and
What was / is your 5711 (blue) wait time?
Guys,I'm wondering how long it took you to get your 5711 once it was ordered. I've been waiting for 6 mos and none of my usual ADs have even received one. Thanks as always!
16800 purchase advice
I'm still learning about Rolex (the deeper you go, the more you get lost) and have found I don't like the latest generation of Rolexes. I've been looking for something reasonable that had a vintage vibe to it. Ideally a 5513 but the ones with nice Patina seem to go for too much. I started looking at 1680 as I like the date wheel with the open 6 and 9. I came across this 16800 that has a nice dark patina to the markers and a ghosted bezel.Could you tell me if there's anything wrong with the watch and the price? So I know what to look for next time. Also, would you avoid purchasing from an international seller? And will I get hit with customs if I purchase internationally? chrono24 won't give me the links for the pics so I'll just provide the link to the watch I'm looking at - https://.chrono24/rolex/subma...-id7955375.htm
