The New Waltham Watches: An American Classic Returns with a Modern Swiss Twist
Waltham is a name well-known to American aficionados of vintage watches and clocks. This fall, the quintessential American watch brand absent from the United States since the 1980s returns to that market with new Waltham wristwatches that call to mind the brand’s long and storied history but are also decidedly modern. The Waltham watch brand traces its origins all the way to 1850, when visionary entrepreneur Aaron Lufkin Dennison founded the first industrialized watch and clock manufacturer in Roxbury, Massachusetts. (Lufkin’s interchangeable parts and assembly-line process would later be adopted by Henry Ford for the fledgling automobile industry.) Four years later, the company moved to the town of Waltham, which gave it its name.?Many watch-world milestones followed, including a Waltham pocketwatch famously owned by President Abraham Lincoln, groundbreaking railroad watches, the construction of Waltham’s own astronomical observatory to test its timepieces’
Armin Strom Gravity Date Watches Of All Four Elements
The Gravity line of watches by Armin Strom is something that we have discussed before:?I wrote about the Gravity Date Tourbillon here?and Ariel did a hands-on article about the time-only Gravity Fire here. But rest assured, this time we have gravitated toward this line again?for two good reasons:?first, we are talking about a different and, relatively speaking, more affordable watch than the tourbillon, and yet a bit more complex than the Gravity Fire. Secondly, I would like to share what I learned about the details of the more unusual design code of the brand.I recently had a chance to sit down with Claude Greisler, Armin Strom's Director of Horology and gain some insight into why they create things the way they do. As we have discussed in the past, large portions of the design language comes from the direction set by the brand's namesake founder over 40 years ago. One of the present day features that is immediately drawn from that direction is the tab on the case down at 6 o'clock.Gr

This beautiful Omega Chronograph Olympic Edition London 1948 just showed up via DHL from the folks at Fellows Auction House. Now I just have to track down a manuel as it came with international warranty card. Auction said it came with papers, just card came with it, no papers. Still a beautiful watch!Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk
Who else wants this to happen at Baselworld?
Everyone is talking about the SS Coke GMT on a jubilee bracelet. I֪ actually more interested in a updated Sub with new movement, throwback red lettering and a rubber strap. Who else is with me on this?
