Ceramic bezel vs glass desk...
...and bezel won!Felt my watch nick the edge of my desk, not hard at all.Saw this, about 3 mm long, and a corresponding small glass chip on my chair. No marks of any type on the bezel. Tough ceramic!
Another polishing question.
I am the happy owner of a Speedmaster Pro purchased in the late 70's. It's had four cleanings in that time, no repairs and NEVER been polished. The patina of the hands and dial face is very nice imo and the lume surprisingly shines brighter than my 1997 Rolex Sub.Now the time has come for a major overhaul and since the case has 30+ years of wear and tear I am tempted to have it cleaned up. My watch man is very established, has both Omega and Rolex accounts with top of the line refinishing machines and assures me metal loss will be microscopic and minimal.Inspite of usually being a rather decisive person I'm on the fence with this one. Resale is not an issue since I plan to pass this timepiece on to my son.Given that I'm pleased with the patina under the crystal and have no desire to replace the dial or hands, will a polish bringing it close to new status look odd ?I've been reading all the pros and cons over the years and would appreciate some personal opinions. Regards, Mark.
3293 and 3796 -- size and appearance? (5196 too)
Hi all,Long time lurker, first time poster. I've been researching Calatravas recently, and am getting interested in three models in particular -- the 5196, 3796, and 3923. But before I take the plunge, I want to get a feel for how they fit. I plan on trying on a 5196 in an AD soon, but wanted to ask if anyone here can comment on the size of the 3796 and/or the 3293, particularly with how they wear on the wrist. My collection is mostly Rolex and Omega, between 34 (vintage) and 42mm, so I'm used to more contemporarily-sized pieces. For what it's worth, I have a 6.5 wrist. Basically, I'm wondering how either the 3796 or 3293 would look, if they come across as very small, or wear larger than they are. Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide some input!
The Perfet Patek
In my humble opinion the 5159 is the perfect Patek. Why?It is a grand complication. It is an officers case. It's is in white gold.It is on a leather strap. It has the Calatrava deployment clasp. It's quite small. It has a vintage feel. All adding up to the ethos of what a Patek should be.
Spotted at Sam's Club today
No idea price wise if this is a bargain or not. I spotted it at Sam's Club when we were out and about today.
