Timezone.com Founder Worries About The Fragility Of High Watch Prices
Why does it seem that all the watches we love are priced like a year of tuition at an Ivy League college? It wasn't always this way.For more years than I care to remember, I've been collecting watches. Also, being a fourth generation watchmaker and retail jeweler, I've had the privilege of being an authorized dealer for several high profile watch companies including IWC, JLC, Ulysse Nardin, to name just a few. I've also had the distinction of watching the death of the mechanical wristwatch in the 1970's, the birth and dominance of the Japanese quartz watch shortly thereafter, and the resurrection of the modern Swiss mechanical watch in the late 1990's. But even though I've been brought up in the business and have a historical viewpoint of the industry, I'm still sticker shocked by today's prices.Whenever I see a really great watch that I covet in a magazine, or on a great blog like this one, or in an uptown watch store, I'm always amazed at how expensive the watch is. In the past, I've
Should I or shouldn't I? Would love your input...
Just heard back from our local APSC that a grey panda dial is available out of AP Switzerland for my 39mm rosegold ROC at a reasonable price. I absolutely love the grey panda dial, especially now that AP has introduced the panda dial on the 41mm stainless steel and rosegold 41mm ROCs.Problem is my wife loves the white dial because it's a decent match to her rosegold Rolex. What do you think? Should I pull the trigger on the grey dial?
AP Clearwater rant
Ok guys, I'm a bit pissed.3 weeks or so back I placed an order of a rubber band for one of my ROO.Gave AP my CC details and shipping (FedEx location).I said I want to pick it up January 17th when I arrive in the US. All fine.Well got a bit delayed yesterday so the fedex location was closed. Drove back there this morning, but no package.Emailed Clearwater and asked for a tracking number (today Wednesday) and this afternoon AP Clearwater replied; You card was declined. OK, strange, but not their fault. Probably since my AMEX is a European chip card, manually entering the details wasn't allowed this time.... no problem with my card, since I used it yesterday a couple of times, including a rental car with a 3000usd hold on the card. Well, I'm pissed since APNA, couldn't bother to inform me my card bounced on Monday or before! (Don't know when they tried, honestly I thought they would charge me once I placed the order some 3 weeks back, I seldom check my cards open bill) If they would have
New AP in coming!!!
I had wanted a white face AP for a while.... so I went to the AD and had my eye on the new safari.... Never thought I would pick this old version navy theme... But when I saw this in person for the first time, I fell in love with it.... I have to say pictures does not do this watch justice!!! This has been my favourite AP for the past week. I am bias since blue is one of my favourite colour.
I am seing double on the Patek web site?
