Wake-Up Time: 5 Luxury Watches With Mechanical Alarms
They’re not as sexy as tourbillons or as impressively complicated as perpetual calendars, but mechanical alarm watches may possess one of the more useful complications for a weary traveler or an overworked executive who might need a little reminder about that big board meeting. In a way, it’s curious that more watch brands haven’t embraced them. Here are five worth noting. The Blancpain Villeret Rveil GMT, part of the brand’s classically styled Villeret collection, features a mechanical alarm as well as a second-time-zone indication. A subdial at 3 o'clock, with 12 hour markers and two hands, displays the time programmed for the alarm, which is set via a push-piece at 8 o'clock, which engages a column wheel.? An On/Off indicator at 1 o'clock shows the wearer at a glance whether or not the alarm is activated. The alarm's chime is produced by a hammer striking a gong. The watch's GMT function uses a center-mounted, blued serpentine hand (a Blancpain hallmark) to
Hamilton Pilot Pioneer Auto Aluminum Review
A couple of years ago, when Hamilton announced the Pilot Pioneer Automatic Chronograph, it got a lot of people, us included, really excited. It was the exact kind of watch from their archives we want to see them bring back. A cool watch with historical significance and a cult status among collectors. To follow up the success of that watch, Hamilton has riffed on the concept to create a series of 3-handers that still speak to the 70s RAF pilot watches those chronographs were based, while becoming something new for their line-up as well as an having unexpected twist. The so called Pilot Pioneer Automatics are dual crown versions of the RAF asymmetrical pilots watches. By adding the dual crown/internal bezel functionality, they did a good job of creating something new that doesn't just feel like a the chronograph, sans-chrono. But to make things more interesting, they decided to do two versions, one in steel, and then one in aluminum. A material we're all familiar with yet rarely see in w
Considering first AP, looking for help and guidance
hi TRF, Just joined and this is my first post about wanting to buy a watch. I currently have a Subc, breitling superocean x-plus, and a Tag Grand Carrera. I have recently been seriously considering buying an AP watch which i can finally afford and was looking for some input. I am mostly looking to buy either a volcano or a bumble bee, and looking to buy either in mint condition. I was recently in the diamond district in NYC with my watch guy and he said didnt have any used bumble bees but it was probably going to be around $21,500 but he had a volcano in mint condition 6 months old with box and papers he could give me for 15,500. Any input on price or buying a used AP would be appreciated or should i just spend the money and get the bumble bee. Alex
Patek Nautilus 5980/1a-014 still worth to buy?
HI, i just pickup my first patek Nautilus 5980/1A-014 (Stainless steel black dial) - this is brand new from Patek authorized dealer.then i found out that this watch is discontinue but i been told this is nautilus watch and this watch will soon become very collectible and you can't go go wrong with any nautilus. I just want to be sure that im not buying the wrong nautilus here. I like 5726-1 and 5990 (but i like this 5980 because is not to crowded unlike 5990) and both are CHRONO and 5726 is not. Please give me an advice. Should i keep it or try to return it. I called 2 store they said this is becoming RARE nautilus (is it true?)Thanks in advance
