My First Grail Watch: Scott Devon of Devon Works
Welcome back to an original watches-dealer feature, "My First Grail Watch". In this series, we ask prominent people in the watch industry about the first timepiece that they lusted after. Today, we're speaking with Scott Devon, the founder and Creative Director of Devon Works. While today he's best well-known for his belt-driven watches, his roots start with the "classics", courtesy of his father and grandfather.watches-dealer (ABTW): Who are you and what is your relationship to the watch industry?Scott Devon (SD): My name is Scott Devon, Founder and Creative Director for Devon Works and Devon Tech Labs based in Los Angeles, California. We are best known for creating the now iconic Devon Tread 1 in 2010.ABTW: When did your fascination with watches start?SD: My Grandfather collected watches, pocket watches, clocks, and music boxes. And my Father was a Rolex Man. I inherited their pieces and recall with fond memories their love of timepieces.ABTW: What was your first grail, and why were
Watch Shopping In Japan: Three F.P.Journe Boutique Exclusives In Tokyo, Including A Tourbillon Souverain With Jade Dial
I'm generally quick to answer when people ask me to name my favorite modern watch brands; without hesitation, the list includes F.P.Journe. This is not to say that I'm a fan of everything the brand produces, but I admire the way the manufacture applies a certainly polarizing and idiosyncratic design language consistently to every model in its range, from the most exclusive models to its entry-level pieces.More than one collector I have met has described F.P.Journe watches as "poetic" in both design and engineering, including a particularly memorable collector who, over glasses of rosé in the courtyard of the 14th-century Swiss château he of course redesigned himself, waxed lyrically about the peerless way the brand balances "technology and poetry" in its designs. (Bear in mind that this was during an event sponsored by another watch manufacture, but this was of no concern to him considering the elegant Resonance he sported on his wrist.)So, need
Would a WG 5167 have a chance in the family?
Random thought of the day...Between the SS and the Rose Gold, do you think a WG 5167 would be successful (more so than either of the current models)? I think it's hard sometimes if a SS and WG are too similar (unless just slightly unique, like a WG Blue Sub).
How long does a new Rolex stay within the -2/+2 accuracy?
I know that the new Rolex standard is -2/+2 accuracy right out of the factory. But how long is a modern Rolex supposed to maintain this accuracy? Is it part of the 5 year Rolex warranty?Does anyone know?
New watch dead on arrival
So I just took delivery of a pre owned GMT Master II from a listing on TRF and for the life of me I can not get it to run. I have wound it 40 clicks, worn it while walking for nearly an hour, nothing has gotten it started. I'm not sure how to proceed from here. I don't want to pay another few hundred for a service - the cost difference would be minimal between that and a new GMT. Is there something else that may be causing it to not run? Thanks.
