Showing at WatchTime IBG 2014: Breguet Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Automatique
WatchTime and noted watch collector and expert Jeff Kingston have teamed up again for the 2014 edition of the popular Inside Basel.Geneva series of collector events, kicking off tomorrow night, September 5, in Chicago. Among the core sponsoring watch brands is Breguet, which will showcase its Breguet Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Automatique 5377 at the events. The Breguet Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Automatique 5377, which the brand says is the world’s thinnest self-winding tourbillon watch, comes in either a platinum or rose-gold case that measures 42 mm in diameter and an astoundingly slender 7 mm thick. Its movement, manufacture Caliber 581DR, is only 3 mm thick. The off-centered tourbillon carriage is made of titanium and protected by a number of patents. The movement is also fitted with a non-magnetic silicon balance spring and an escapement made of silicon and a special non-magnetic steel. MKII Vantage for Epaulet
I'll start this post with a disclaimer: by the time I had a chance to write about the watch that inspired this post, it was sold out. I decided it was worth writing about anyway, since it is a beautiful watch by an interesting brand, being sold at a fantastic store. That watch, of course, is the MKII Vantage for Epaulet. The now discontinued and sold out MKII Vantage is an homage to the timeless Rolex Explorer. There is a fairly thorough history of the Rolex here, but to briefly summarize the Explorer was designed to commemorate the Everest expedition by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay in 1953. It was designed to be highly legible, extra durable and function in wide range of temperatures That is to say, be ready for adventure. The look of the watch just exudes purpose and elegance. It is the kind of watch that can be worn in any circumstance and with probably any piece of attire. The Vantage keeps the Explorer dial, but is quite different in some other ways. Here is a side-by-si
Off to Geneva tomorrow...
The weather forecast is good and I feel like a day out.... so I have decided on a quick trip to Geneva tomorrow (about a 2 hour drive from home).I intend visiting the PP salon (one of only three) to check out Aquanauts and Nautilus (Nautili?)....and AP's Crown Jewel boutique to see the various Royal Oaks.I shall make sure I have a good lunch, if only to follow Gerardo's example, and will certainly pay curtesy visits to a couple of Rolex ADs...I do not intend purchasing on this trip (famous last words), but hope to come away having decided between a 15400, ROC, and Aquanaut. Will post an update when I get back.....
