Eterna Royal KonTiki Two Time Zones Watch
The Royal KonTiki Two Time Zones by Eterna is a handsome watch, but watch industry pundits will no doubt consider the bigger story being the first appearance of the new Calibre 39 in a production watch. It couldn't have happened soon enough. When the Calibre 39 was announced this year, its appearance seemed to embody that well known saying ascribed to Plato that "Necessity is the mother of invention." Since ETA owner, the Swatch Group, announced their intention to limit the supply of ETA movements to competing companies, the scramble had begun to find an alternative supplier.After-all, with the drying up of the supply of these workhorse engines, many watch companies would be left with pretty watch cases with nothing to put inside, thus threatening their survival. Those?companies who could (ie: with deep pockets) were given?impetus?to develop in-house movements, partly to remove dependence?on external suppliers, and partly to move up the chain as it were, towards credibility as a watchmak
Bring a Loupe: A Selection Of Watches Under $3,000, With Two Incredible Exceptions
This week's Bring A Loupe focuses on finding great vintage watches on a budget under $3,000. An impossible goal? Not at all – we found a very funky Hamilton, and a triple calendar from Gallet, and even a great looking vintage Rolex. However, that budget constraint will be put aside for two insanely rare Universal Geneve watches that definitely deserve a place in our Friday lineup. This is your Bring A Loupe for November 27, 2015 – and I wish you a nice Thanksgiving weekend. A Wittnauer Vintage Diver With Super Compressor Case 1 OF 10 The Super Compressor case revolutionized dive watches in the mid-1950s, when the case maker Ervin Piquerez SA, or EPSA, designed and patented an innovative case-sealing method. They had the inspiration to use the increasing pressure of water on the case back in order to actually tighten the sealing gasket – the deeper you went, the better the water resistance. Many brands required those cases to be employed for t
Rare Omega single button chronograph
I recently had the opportunity to service a rare stainless steel, single button chronograph with the hack feature and thought you'd like to see some pictures. As noted on the case back, this model was made for the Royal Canadian Air Force.
Yachtmaster I vs. II
Forgive me if this has been done before. The Yachtmaster line has never been as popular as the Sub or GMT. But it has its own appeal to the certain buyer. Even so, Rolex offers 2 versions! Other than sharing the Yachtmaster name, I feel they are completely different watches. If you had to choose, which do you prefer more?I for one like really like the new blue YM. The YMII has its fan base as well. It is very unique so you either like it of you don't, but I wonder if it gets even more love than the YMI?
Order Rolex at AD - Gift Certificate Question
Hi all I am new to this Forum. I work in Manhattan and I just ordered a GMT2 Master batman at one AD: Tourneau Bryant Park. They don't have the watch in stock, so they asked me to buy a gift certificate by swiping my credit card and they told me I will get my watch as soon as they get one. They guaranteed that I can get my money back if I am not satisfied with the purchase. Now I got a receipt from them and I have a few questions.1. I already paid a lot of money by credit card with only a receipt stating gift certificate, so is it possible that they can take my money without giving me watch? 2. I paid MSRP for that watch and forgot to negotiate the price, is it possible to negotiate the price for the batman? Do you guys think if I should ask other ADs?3. My credit card has some benefits like lost protection and extended warranty. Do I need to ask them to cancel the previous charge and swipe for the actual watch to get these benefits?Thank you very much for the help! This will be my fir
