For 2015, Officine Panerai goes back again to its roots as a historic supplier of instruments for the Italian navy and releases a quartet of new iterations on popular models as well as one reissue from the heritage collection. Coverage of the first model, the most complicated one: Radiomir 1940 with equation of time, deserved separate coverage and can be found in a separate post. The remaining model iterations constitute three Panerai Luminor Submersible watches, one Panerai Radiomir, and one special novel reissue. First, three new models of the Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 with flyback chronograph function. These maintain the large 47mm case size that somehow still wears small due to short lugs. Being built in titanium reduces the weight and so does using a flexible rubber caoutchouc strap. Last year, after introducing a new in-house movement and investing CHF 40 million in a factory to support the production of that movement, TAG Heuer had a change of heart. In one of those stunning stories only made possible by the Internet, in 2012 a man turned to Google to search for "Vacheron & Constantin" and "egg" to find that the jewel-encrusted gold egg housing a Vacheron watch he purchased for $13,302 in the early 2000s at a Midwestern flea market was in fact an 1887 birthday gift for Tsar Alexander III from?Peter Carl Faberg��. It has now sold privately for millions,?likely?making it the most expensive timepiece on earth.The unnamed individual stumbled on a 2011 Telegraph article entitled "Is this ��20 million nest-egg on your mantelpiece?" The egg was the third of 54 Faberg��?eggs owned by the Russian royal family and had been lost since 1922. Gold Rolex, douchey or classy?
I reckon a guy over 35 in a suit can easily pull of a Sky-D in yellow gold or even an all gold sub. For the under 35 crowd in casual clothing I would say stay the hell away from an all gold watch. Somehow it just gives of the vibe of trying too hard and tacky. What do you guys think?
