Elegant Accessories: TAG Heuer Racer Smartphone
TAG Heuer has built its reputation as a watch brand largely on its close association with auto racing. Now, as the 150-year-old Swiss company continues its growth from watchmaker into lifestyle brand, it introduces the Racer, which it calls the first Swiss luxury touch-screen smartphone made entirely from materials used in auto racing and aviation. The TAG Heuer Racer joins the brand’s existing Link and Meridiist along with Ulysse Nardin’s Chairman in the small but growing niche of Swiss-watch-branded luxury smartphones. The materials used in the Racer among them grade 2 titanium, carbon fiber, black PVD, 316L stainless steel, and rubber were all first used in professional motorsports and aeronautics. The design of the device takes its cues from high-end GT racecars. Designed in Switzerland and built in France, it is powered by the Android operating system, and has a customized 3D interface. The core model in the line is the Full Carbon Orange, with a front face? in fu
Maurice Lacroix is not targeted by Bulgari
With Bulgari focusing strongly on their new line of watches on the theme of serpent Serpenti, it gave me the opportunity to reflect on some of the other snake-themed watches which came out in recent years. I always enjoyed the artistic aspect of the Maurice Lacroix Divina watches limited edition temptation line (even though I was wondering comments which really bought their). They even used snakes in their ads well enough. Maurice Lacroix is not targeted by Bulgari, as the Italian brand has snake watches on the theme of how in the past.
Autodromo Group B Review
When people discuss the great eras of watch making, the 80's don't often come up. It was a time when quartz had leveled the industry, inexpensive pieces flooded in and digital was emerging. Nor do the 80's come up when people speak of great style and fashion, plagued by fluorescent colors, padded shoulders and oddly baggy shirts. But when people discuss Rally car racing, it's a different story altogether. With Autodromo's new line of watches they drew upon the distinctly 80's era of rally car racing known as Group B. As Sean pointed out when we first announced the watches, Group B was a notoriously brutal and dangerous. Cars were light and had monstrous amounts of power. It was an era that fostered a lot of technological innovation in the sport, but resulted in too many accidents as well as a few deaths, ending after 4 years. Many consider it the "golden age" of rally car racing. As with previous lines of Autodromo watches, the design found its inspiration in those beastly machines, draw
Hands-On: The Les Indomptables de Cartier Decor Watch
It is no secret that Cartier does luxury well. As one of the most iconic watch and jewelry brands in the business (and they have been for decades), Cartier never ceases to amaze me in how well they create such beautifully crafted objects. Launched in April of this year, Les Indomptables de Cartier Décor Watch is from the Metiers d’Arts collection is no exception. At first glance it appears to be just a pretty watch with a Panther covering part of the dial. That is until you take it in your hands and realize that the Panther is in fact removable AND a brooch. This type on innovative design exactly why Cartier is one of the best. 1 OF 6 Les Indomptables de Cartier Décor Watch is part of a 30-piece collection and was designed and created at the Cartier Metiers d’Arts Maison in La Chaux-de-Fonds. HODINKEE published a write up on the Maison after it opened earlier this year. The Maison is a converted farmhouse with each floor dedicated to a different
Jubilee Dial on DJ36?
Did I simply miss this earlier or was it reintroduced this year at Basel? I though Jubilee dials were extinct. Funny, another watch in Rose Gold.
