The chronograph is a decidedly difficult complication to produce – that much we know. After all, up until about 15 years ago there were less than a handful of manually wound chronographs in existence. Another great tenet of watchmaking is that of the ultra-thin movement, a specialty practically owned these days but nobody but Piaget. It was last December that we caught a glimpse of a truly extraordinary timepiece – the Piaget Alitplano Chronograph – a manually wound, in-house chronograph with fly-back mechanism and GMT function that was only 8.24 mm thick.
