Breguet Birthday Bash: Exhibit Celebrates Bicentennial of the Wristwatch
The discussion about what was the first timepiece for the wrist, and what watchmaker produced it, has typically involved a handful of well-known contenders, chiefly Cartier, with its Santos-Dumont from 1904, and Patek Philippe, with its Countess Koscowicz watch from 1868. Breguet, however, has the historical documents to make a compelling case for the honor. The brand’s namesake, legendary watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet, delivered a wrist-worn timepiece, commissioned by Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples and sister of Napoleon Bonaparte, as early as 1812.This year, of course, marks the 200th anniversary of that milestone, and Montres Breguet, the brand that today carries on Breguet’s name, is commemorating it with an exhibit of historical interest and import to watch aficionados, called “1810-1812: Breguet Makes the First Wristwatch, Fit For a Queen.” First launched in Geneva, the exhibit begins a worldwide tour starting this week at Breguet’s Fifth Avenue
Zenith's New Lacquer Dial El Primero Offers A More Refined Take On A Sporty Classic
During the week of SIHH, Zenith took over a palatial suite at the Grand Hotel Kempinski in Geneva, where we were shown an addition to the brand's iconic El Primero lineup. The new model features a lacquer dial, in either black or white (both equally attractive options, if I may say so myself). The fact that this model commands only a few hundred dollars more than its non-lacquered counterpart makes it a worthwhile choice for anyone with a penchant for in-house movements, refined sporty design, and modern watches with respectable lineage. 1 OF 6 First, let's take a quick look at some technical aspects. Inside the 42 mm (x 12.75 mm) stainless-steel case is Zenith's in-house El Primero 400 B, a self-winding movement that features 50 hours of power reserve. The movement measures 30 mm in diameter and contains a column-wheel chronograph mechanism as well as a date function (visible through an aperture between 4 and 5 o'clock). 2 OF 6 Caliber El Pr
787 Premier
I have a 1940s Premier Chronograph. Timekeeping is amazing and chronograph function works on all but bottom dial which won't reset! Would you know if it's a big job to repair? The dial and hands appear original and untouched. I'm based in London. Thanks
