Vintage Watch Shopping In Japan: Private Eyes, An Incubator For Collecting, Not Investing
Beyond the highly-stylized entrance of Private Eyes lays what can be best described as an anachronistic incubator for vintage watch collecting. Not hyper-speculative, inflation-averse watch collecting, but the type of passionate, reverential collecting that has more to do with a true?respect for old-world design of both the aesthetic and technical sort. While the commodity-level watches on the ground level do reflect a fine appreciation for vintage watches, I was grateful to be shown a selection of the proprietor's personal favorites-some truly stunning examples of watches that he would never part with (and some that he would), that made the trip to this mostly residential Tokyo neighborhood more than justified. 2 OF 45 The bi-level space is situated on a corner of the neighborhood's main thoroughfare. Clean salt from diver
Any suggestions how to clean off salt residue stuck in and around the seals?Rinsing or some pooldiving today didn't do the trick, I used some soap and cleaned most of the watch but I didn't want to push the salt in under the bezel so I didn't touch it.

Partially rescinding my endorsement of Swiss Service Center
In mid-January, I sent my SMP 2552.80 to Swiss Service in Illinois, the closest Omega-authorized service center. I bought it in May, 2000, and never had it serviced before. It was losing ~28 sec/day. They sent a quote a few days later, and I approved all the work. This was my first Swiss watch, and while I recently contemplated selling it, I know it should be a keeper, after thinking about all it went through with me for the past nearly 8 years. The other day, I noticed that my account was debited for the Omega service. Today, I called them and they said it was shipped out and gave me tracking. FedEx just showed up! Notice all the packaging - even my cats were curious! It was wrapped in tissue paper, then a small manila envelope, then a FedEx bubble wrap envelope, then a small FedEx box, then a medium FedEx box. My watch looks fantastic, all nicely polished to nearly new. I wound it 40x and set the time (noticed I didn't have the right date until after I took the pics). Putting
