U.S. Supreme Court Will Examine Costco Sale of Omega Watches
In a case that could have wide-ranging implications for so-called “gray-market” goods, the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to decide whether manufacturers can use U.S. copyright law to prevent their foreign-made goods from appearing on web sites and store shelves at U.S. discounters such as Costco, Amazon, Target, and others. The case began in 2004 after Costco sold 43 Omega Seamasters for $1299, then about $700 below Omega’s MSRP. Omega originally sold the watches to authorized agents located outside the U.S. The agents sold the watches to unidentified parties who sold them to a U.S.-based company that sold them to Costco.Omega sued, claiming that Costco’s actions constituted copyright infringement. Omega claims copyright protection based on the fact that the “Omega Globe Design” logo engraved on the caseback is registered with the copyright office. Copyright law grants owners power to control the “first sale” of a protected work. After th
Xetum Stinson Review
The Xetum Stinson is a watch that we've been curious about for quite some time.? Known for its uniquely minimal design and Swiss made credentials, it stands to reason that this is a watch that has received a rather positive response from the watch community.? And the Xetum brand itself is quite unique, but without trying too hard.? Located in San Francisco, the company is committed to not only quality design but also sustainable operations, having taken several steps to limit their environmental impact. So we were excited to receive a Stinson for a few weeks of wear and closer consideration.Case: Stainless SteelMovement: ETA 2824-2Dial: Off-whiteLume: YesLens: SapphireStrap: Brown Leather with cork liningWater Res.: 100MDimensions: 40mmThickness: 11mmLug Width: 20mmWarranty: 30 day return / 2 year movementPrice: $995CaseWhat will likely strike you first about the Stinson is its lugless case design – the case is round and the band connects to lugs hidden on its underside.?? I have been owner of my grail RO 15300 now for just over 3 months. A few days after pick up i noticed a problem with date change and wanting everything perfect i decided to get it sent back to AP service to get sorted under warranty. Now before watch was sent off to service centre AD did the usual watch condition report which read AS NEW CONDITION no marks or dings anywhere which is no suprise as i prob had only worn watch on 5/6 occasions. A few days ago i received call from AD to say my watch was ready for me to collect. Report from AP says they had replaced a few parts and was now changing within tolerance . Well all seemed good until i put on my spectacles to inspect. Well what a disappointment firstly i noticed a mark on brushed part of bezel right next to one of the screw heads and also light marking around part of the polished edge of bezel and also on a couple of the screw heads i never took any pics of marks to bezel think i was in shock. Needless to say watch has now been r
My Moon Watch has arrived!
Thank you for all the valuable advice from the esteemed members of the Omega forum of TRF. I've been keeping my eye out for a 3570.50, and it was harder, than I thought, to find here in Hong Kong pre-owned.Today I stumbled into a vintage watch store and found a 3570.5000, complete with box, papers, and hangtag. It is in fantastic condition for a 12 year old watch that has not been serviced. There is a small ding on the bezel at 6 o'clock and the lume on the hour and minute hands are starting to fall off. I figure I would be servicing anyhow so the above wouldn't matter. Here's a picture of the newest addition to my collection:Would you take it to an official Omega Service Center or do you think an independent watchmaker would do? I would be looking to have the movement serviced, cleaned (lume bits are present), and water pressure tested.A BIG thank you to Fr. John for his knowledge and advice!Cheers,Eric
