Guide To Buying Your First Rolex Part 1: When To Buy
When To Buy')">This is a two-part guide on buying your first Rolex watch. Our Rolex buying guide is intended for both novices and seasoned watch lovers. Part 1 discusses when you should invest in your first Rolex, while Part 2 discusses what specific Rolex timepiece to buy.True story: When I first became interested in "nice" watches I had little interest in Rolex. Looking back, I think I found them a bit ordinary or too conservative looking. My 20-year-old self perhaps saw them as being "too safe" from a design perspective and not close enough the modern, experimental designs I was attracted to at the time. That was all true. Rolex watches are design monoliths. Due to Rolex's impressive marketing over the years, as well as the sheer popularity of their products, they have become the archetype of the "nice watch." And everyone certainly knows about them. My younger self was simply looking for something a bit more fresh. It was not the right time to get my first Rolex.Over the years, my
First Look: Five Unexpected Vintage Lots From The Upcoming Watches Of Knightsbridge Auction
It's always exciting to flip thought the pages of a fresh auction catalog. So we were thrilled to discover the lots from this week's Watches of Knightsbridge auction. There are showstoppers of course, such as a big crown Submariner and an early Speedmaster CK2998. But we think we found a couple of sleepers as well. So we picked five and went to try them on. Omega DeVille Chronograph Reference 145.017, With Slate Grey Dial 1 OF 13 It's not a Speedmaster, and that's okay. This vintage De Ville was introduced in 1968, with the lever-and-cam caliber 860. This De Ville has a rare slate-grey dial, which is perhaps the most noteworthy aspect of the watch. This two-register chronograph's dial changes appearance according to the light, turning metallic blue, grey, or even

5970 vs 5270?
I am starting to debate my next Patek purchase. I am dead set on either getting the 5970 or the new 5270. I like the 5970r aesthetically the most and the 5970p the second most but there is a big difference in price. I am debating going with the new 5270. Obviously it is only made in white at this time. I would love your overall thoughts and thoughts on short and long term collectibility of each piece. Thanks in advance!
