So for those of you who know me, I've been absent for a while from the forums. I just felt like doing a braindump on my past year with AP watches, if you are bored without any football or golf to watch, take a minute to read.Around this time last year, I posted a question about what would be a good first AP. Most people pointed me towards to the new 44mm ROOs, while many said go for the 15300 or the like. I quickly dismissed the 15300s, as they were, back then, to me boring.Over the past year I've developed a strong love for AP. My complaint with watches in the past is that they were too one dimensional. The overall look of the watch was the same regardless of what kind of lighting situations you had etc., so at the end of the day, the watch always looked the same.At heart, I don't like consistency in that respect. Would you put your AP on a watchwinder?
Hi,I know there are many watchwinder posts in the main TRF forum, but interested to see what others do with their APs. I know that our wrists are the best watchwinders, but we only have 2 wrists, wear only 1 watch at a time, and a lot of us have more than 1 watch.I don't rotate my watches everyday, more so every 3-4 days or every week or so, and with the AP's power reserve ranging from 40-60 hours (with my ROC being 40 hours), it wouldn't allow me to leave it unworn over a weekend for example (if I take it off Friday night it'll be stopped by Monday morning).I used to have a Big Pilot so with a 7 day reserve I could rotate it without a watchwinder. However, now with a Sub and AP, wanted to see how others manage to rotate your watches.Both Sub and AP have screw-down crowns and date function, and I don't want to wear out the threads by unscrewing them every day to manually wind them to keep them running. Collectibility?
I always thought that collectibility was part of the Panerai special edition fun. These are low production watches after all. However, I was soured to this side of it when the new Cali dial watches were introduced. This, in part, lead me to sell off my 249. Initially, prices held and I thought perhaps I over reacted. Looking at the For Sale section today I am saddened to see how far 249 prices have fallen in the secondary market.I personally will no longer take collectibility into account with my future Panerai purchases. Re-releasing special editions in anyway just stinks. Sorry for the rant, but it just hit home today.
