Christophe Claret Adagio
For years Christophe Claret labored in relative obscurity creating horological masterpieces sold under the names of others. To date he has devised and executed 68 unique complicated movements. In 2009, the man behind the curtain released the first timepiece widely marketed under his own name. Following the “bravos”, Claret is launching a second piece bearing his name. His encore is called Adagio. The Adagio features central hour and minute hands, small seconds at 9 o'clock in a window or subdial, depending on the versions, along with a large date at 6 o'clock and a dual time-zone (hours and minutes) display complete with day/night indication in a subdial at 2 o'clock. This timepiece is equipped with Calibre SLB88, naturally created entirely in house, composed of 455 parts and measuring 34mm in diameter. Striking the hours, quarters and minutes on demand, the cathedral gongs of the striking mechanism are fitted with a patented device preventing them from knocking against ea
Watch Curmudgeon: How Little Did You Pay For That Watch?
What do you think a gorgeous watch should cost that's meticulously crafted, and features a fine ETA automatic movement, a thick, domed sapphire crystal, state-of-the-art lume, a superb strap or bracelet, and many more amenities? $5,000? $4,000? $3,000.? $2,000.? Hold that thought. Now, what do you think when you see a watch on worn&wound that has all the above going for it but only costs about 500 bucks? Impossible? Mistake? Piece of junk? Drunk editor? Typo? Probably made in a leper colony in Outer Mongolia? All the above?Well, if you're a regular reader of this blog, you know damn well what $500 will get you: a damn incredible watch! But did you ever wonder how that's possible? Or if serious watch makers offering those deals are making any money? Let me assure you that it's extremely possible, and those (smart) companies are doing quite well, thank you very much.Let's examine this conundrum by first looking at distribution. Watch companies that offer the most extreme value are sel
Chandigarh AD in India / Stock levels...
Visited the AD in Chandigarh earlier today. They had a total of 6 DJs in the display and 1 in the window! That’s it! The staff was embarrassed on what they had for sale.I was not able to understand their pricing. I could not work out how they add a premium to the retail price and by how much.I suspect once a reference comes in, they contact interested customers and the one who offers the most gets it?! I know it sounds unbelievable.Anyways a couple of pics...IMG_0337.JPGSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Search Update
Hi everybody. I wanted to give an update on my upgrade from my Air King 114200. I posted, a few weeks ago, that I wanted something a bit bigger and was really wanting a sub. I went to my local AD and tried on several difference watches. I knew, going in, that I wanted a sub...that was until I tried on the Explorer 1. I put it on and immediately fell in love with it. The size is perfect, the dial is simple...yet confident...if that makes sense. It was exactly what I was looking for. I found a seller on here and pulled the trigger. I couldn't be happier and it is going to be the perfect compliment to my grandfathers 6334 that I cherish. Being a pilot, I loved my Air King. I loved the story behind it and really enjoyed wearing it. Aside from wanting something bigger...I needed something to commemorate this year. My wife and I welcomed our first child, a girl, into our family. At the same time, my wife kick the crap out of bile duct cancer (she was diagnosed when she was pregn
