Where to buy a Patek?
I'm looking to buy a 5035 model Annual Calendar (White or Cream dial in Yellow Gold).Ideally (like everyone) I'd like to get a mint condition watch w/ box, papers & service history for the minimum possible price (going rate retail seems to be just over $20k USD - so you know, less than that :) ).Apart from having a running search on chrono24 and waiting for a trusted seller to put one up looking for a quick sale, what are the best forums / sites to keep an eye on for a 'good buy'?I'm sure someone would suggest auction, so I'd be interested in knowing how people who do buy watches at auction manage the risk - how do you know you're not getting a lemon?(Being that I'm in Australia (where there are about 5 PP dealers nationwide), popping down to the local Prestige watch auction-house isn't exactly an option)Finally, does anyone have a feel for what these are worth when you find someone who wants a quick sale? (eg. what price would you expect to get from your local watch trader?)Thanks
How long would you wait?
Members,My AD told me they may (no guarantee) be able to get me an application piece I applied for almost a year ago. They asked for a deposit equal to the full price of the piece. I wired them the money a month ago. I just spoke to them the other day and they have no update from Patek. I'm wondering if they are just wasting my time? Thoughts? How long would you be willing to wait after making a full deposit?
Pelagos V1 or V2
Hey Guys,I'm on the hunt for a daily wearer. I'm new to the higher end watch game, and am by no means an expert on movements, etc. I stumbled upon the Pelagos a few weeks ago and really like it. My preference is for black and therefore I have the the option of both v1 and v2. To be honest, I'm not sure that I have any preference when it comes to the various differences. 2 lines vs 5 lines, in house vs ETA, etc. I guess I maybe prefer the 2 lines but it's not a deal breaker. The in house movement seams nice with the larger power reserve, but the ETA is maybe simpler to service down the road and will do what I need it to do. I've found used v1's to be around $2,500. Used v2's a little over $3k. I'm leaning towards saving the money and going v1. Thoughts?
