Watch Choice For Survival: Top Pick For Deserted Island Scenario?
If you are anything like me, you have seriously considered what you would do in a survival situation on a deserted island. Do I ever anticipate being in this situation? Well no, but as a dedicated lover of the survivalist genre (from Robinson Crusoe to Castaway), I do take the time to ponder such issues. Likely or not, it makes for good conversation, and an interesting tactical decision, thinking about what watch would be perfect. Let's see what some of the considerations you need to take when choosing your island adventure watch. You'll need a rugged, long lasting watch, with functions that will be helpful during everyday endeavors.Under the most dire of scenarios, you are going to be stuck on this island for a long time, perhaps even forever. You can never anticipate what is going to happen to your watch, but you want something that can take just about anything, keep running, and provide you with as much flexibility as possible. Sales person invited to tour PP factory
I visited my local AD yesterday to enquire about the 5320. The young sales person was very friendly and we got chatting. Mentioned that she's still learning about Patek and has only been in the watch industry for about a year. And then she casually mentioned that she's going to Geneva shortly to tour Patek's factory. So I replied that she must be a high-performer since it's a real privilege. She responded that because she speaks Chinese she's been selected along with a few clients. In my experience, most sales are Chinese these days, so it's not a unique attribute.Question: is it common for young sales ppl and clients to tour Patek's factory? Is it something that all sales ppl do as part of their training? Does this extend to other brands?Note:They have not received any 5320G yet but the first one is due in Sep. There's interest (expected) but I will see it when it comes in.5711/1A - 4/5 yr waitlistSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

First, a very big thank you to the many who graciously entertained my incessant questions. I heeded the advice of some, and not of others. In the end, I went with what ticked all my boxes in this crazy passion. I've come to realize that what makes sense to some doesn't to others. And, what makes the best investment or has the best downside protection doesn't always equal what we want. Here are the boxes I wanted to tick:Platinum - I wanted platinum. If I got any other metal, I know, for me, I would continue to want a platinum Patek, so I would not have scratched my itch. Mind you, this is to take NOTHING away from any other PM or SS Patek. There are so many beautiful options, which in itself makes this a difficult task when funds are not unlimited.New - as much as I tried, I couldn't buy a used watch at this level. I wanted to break the seal and be the first. So, I worked hard to find a good deal, and I got very lucky. Timing is everything.Perpetual Calendar - I didn't want just a Chon
