Watches NEWS
BEST FROM: watches-dealer & Friends October 11, 2013
We kick off October by checking out the biggest winners and losers of the recently concluded Only Watch 2013 charity auction. We also review the new MB&F Legacy Machine 2, take a closer look at the new Big Bang watches and their UNICO movements, a unique Bathys atomic wristwatch and a limited edition Panerai watch created specially for Paneristis. Finally, we learn more about the Horween leather company and hear what John Mayer (yes, the singer) has to say about watch collecting.1. Only Watch 2013 Auction Winners & LosersThe Only Watch 2013 charity auction recently concluded and the big winner was, unsurprisingly, Patek Philippe. Its one-of-a-kind titanium reference 5004T fetched an amazing 2.95 million Euros, well over its estimate. However, Patek Philippe was not just the brand that went above its estimate, and there were some brands that went under. Find out who they are in our article. Source: watches-dealer2. VOUTILAINEN 28 GML Center
Introducing the Voutilainen C 28 GML CenterA true watchmaking purist who makes almost all the parts in his own workshops, Kari Voutilainen has long been fond of traditional decorative techniques including engine-turning. However, he's spent the last few years on a great adventure with the Unryuan studio. The Unryuan studio lies in a tiny village east of Tokyo and specialises in the age-old decorative art of maki-e. It is used to decorate wooden pieces such as tobacco boxes or bowls and requires years of experience and immense talent. The two brands began collaborating in 2011 and have produced 6 totally unique designs. The 28 GML Center has a second time zone on a central disc and features a painstakingly detailed dial with Kinpun (gold dust), Jyunkin-itakane (gold leaf), Yakou-gai (green sea snail shell), Awabi-gai (New Zealand abalone shell) and Japanese lacquer.Price on requestBy?Fabrice Eschmannvoutilainen.ch
First Patek - 5146 / 5396 / 5205
Fellow Patek enthusiasts,I'd like to hear your thoughts on a first Patek. While I'd love a 5711 in steel, we all know the premium is just too high right now on the 2nd market. I'm OK building a relationship and growing my Patek collection over time. I'm current loving my BLNR and have on rotation a 116520, a 116400GV, a IW3799-01, and a IW3905-02.Let me know what you guys think!
5160
Do you like 5160? I bought 5160J in 2012. Some collectors don't like it because too much engrave. However, I like it very much. Then, I waited for another three years. My AD offered me 5160R couple days ago. I am so happy to accept the offer.214106nnflfnhpt8gazh83.jpg214158djvjf6wgwedjawtl.jpg214123q5p5qdcuadbblc75.jpg
Tudor GMT Demand
Obviously, this question will be easier to answer once the watch hits the stores....but we do love to speculate here! The Tudor GMT has peaked my interest, but I'm not sure if I will like the size and weight. If I get it and don't like it, I would like to be able to flip it without losing much money.Since most Tudors lose a lot of value if bought at MSRP, I wonder if the GMT will hold value for those who buy at MSRP soon after it comes out. Have there been any other high-demand Tudors that have held their value? I see even the vaunted LHD Pelagos is selling on the pre-owned market for a pretty good discount.
