Controlled Chaos: Harry Winston’s Opus XI
For a couple of seconds every hour, the dial looks like a mess, but then all is made clear. Meet the Harry Winston Opus XI. Click here to read WatchTime writer Martina Richter’s in-depth report on the watch for our July-August issue, along with a video of how its ultra-complicated movement works. The circles, spins and flips of carnival rides were what inspired Denis Giguet in his design of the Opus XI, unveiled last year as part of Harry Winston's Opus series featuring offbeat watches conceived by various independent watchmakers. Every hour, on the hour, in the span of 2 or 3 seconds, the hour display C a system comprised of a multitude of wheels, pinions, arbors, bearings and tiles C disintegrates into utter chaos and then returns to order for the remainder of the hour. This chaos originates from a completely normal watch movement with manual winding, a 48-hour power reserve, and a frequency of 21,600 vph. Graduation Present to Myself: Omega Planet Ocean
I just bought my first luxury watch: an Omega Planet Ocean with the 2500 movement. Thanks to TRF and Matt!It is a graduation present to myself for when I finish my BBA in Finance, Accounting, and International Business in May of this year. I got it in the mail today, took it out of the box, admired it, removed the protective plastics, resized the bracelet, tried it on...then put it back in the box where it will stay until I really wear it the first time on graduation day. But until then, it's full-time school, CPA, and CFA preparation. What a blast!Per tradition, here are a few quick pics.Oh it's beautiful! On my 6.25 wrists (Gibson Les Paul in the background)And a pic of the dog :)
How bad are the waitlists for the SD43?
Curious what folks in the states are seeing for this one.
Some DEEP thoughts...!!!
I've now had my DeepSea for 8 daysAnd having worn it all day, every day during that time, I thought I would pass along just a few of my own personal observations of a watch that seems to polarize people more then mostWhen first picked up and held in hand, the watch demonstrates a incredible heft One that causes even the most ardent watch enthusiast to pause and exhale deeplyBut once on the wrist, I found the extra weigh to miraculously vanish entirely I've heard comments from people about a Top Heaviness or Floppy feel when wornBut I must say that I found, in my case anyway, for this not to be soThe watch seems to sit atop my wrist where it belongs with no more movement then either my 1665, 16660 or 16600 ever hadIn fact, the watch wears and feels no different on me, then any other Sea Dweller I have ever ownedAnd I tend to wear all of my watches a bit looseThe biggest issue people seem to have, based on what I have read, is the thicknessNow there's no getting around i
