I've been invited to Glashutte to visit Germany's preeminent luxury watch maker, A. Lange & Sohne. My trip will take me to the Ore Mountains region near Dresden, where A. Lange & Sohne's headquarters and factory is located. Glashutte's main employers are all watch makers, and is known as a prime region focused on the continuation of the world's most dedicated mechanical art from, horology.While touring Glashutte I'll have a rare opportunity to view the nervous system of a German luxury watch making machine, able to observe and converse with the master watch makers themselves. A. Lange & Sohne's production is between only 5000 - 7000 watches a year, due to extremely high quality demands. I feel like this has been a long time coming..These days, AP has really changed their approach. The company is not producing as many limited editions as they used to. I can only assume that cut back was done so when a limited does come out, it will be very special and not another over saturated limited.The materials AP is using now are cutting edge and for good reason to. Rubber is being replaced with ceramic, The classic machined tapisserie dials are starting to be stamped in more and more pieces instead of the classic machined technique. But it's that classic machining technique that gives the dials those textures and depth. I'm sure AP will always revert back to classic techniques, but on the more main stream pieces like offshore models, things are definitely changing. Going forward into the future, AP is taking a direction to make sure things become more and more efficient, that's for sure. Just curious if Rolex deliveries to ADs in the US are random or if they occur around the same times every week/month etc. would be interesting to know if there is a better time of the week/month to pop in and see what new has been received..
