HYT H2 Tradition: Futuristic Meets Retro
The “hydromechanical horologists” of indie watch brand HYT were among the first-time exhibitors at this year’s SIHH in Geneva. After making a splash at recent Baselworlds with pioneering timepieces like the H1, H2, and H3, the brand headed by watch-industry veteran Vincent Perriard wowed the SIHH crowd with the new H2 Tradition the first HYT to meld cutting-edge technology with horological classicism. The HYT H2 Tradition is the first HYT watch with such classical refinements as guilloch finishes, delicately lacquered dials, black Roman numerals for the hours, and blued Breguet-style hands, but it retains the now-familiar HYT hydro-mechanical aesthetic thanks to the capillary around the dial’s periphery, filled with blue fluid that moves forward with the passing of the hours. The dial on the Alter Ego has markers for six hours and the Tag Heuer logo and nothing else. Designers to combine this ultra clean dial colours for a stunning effect.

The attention to detail and efficient workflow within the manufacture was mesmerizing, in addition to the dizzying array of high-tech machinery used to produce the modern watches. But what struck me most was the assortment of vintage pocket watches and wristwatches on display at the company's museum – everything from the first mass-produced digital watch movement to prototypical models from both the Portuguese and Portofino collections. I couldn't help but snap away to share some of these interesting and rare timepieces with you. 1 OF 10 This pocket watch from 1885 demonstrates IWC's early appreciation of innovative concepts in movement engineering, which resulted in more modern aesthetics. Note the contrasting design of the digital pocket watch above, and the classic yellow gold pocket wa
