Certina DS Rookie Watch
In addition to Tissot, Certina offers nicely designed Swiss watches are affordable prices, and is part of the Swatch Group. While not as common in the US, there are some real nice Certina timepieces that should be considered when looking for a decently priced quartz watch. Though there are mechanical Certina watches available as well. Basically, Certina watches are priced in the 200 - 2,000 euro zone.Almost all Certina sport watches have a name that starts with "DS." This stands for "Double Security" and is more a safe sounding name than impressive technology. It just means that their cases are durable (not sure just HOW durable), are 100 meters water resistant, and have sapphire crystals. This watch is the DS Rookie, a funny sounding name for a good youthful timepiece that doesn't look chintzy. At 40mm wide, Certina is literally aiming straight at the young make demographic with this watch - those more mature adults who prefer 40mm wide cases will find the DS Rooking a good wear. The
Inside The Manufacture: Two Days With Parmigiani Fleurier (And Some Thoughts On What 'In-House' Really Means)
When we talk about fine watchmaking, the words “in-house” and “manufacture” invariably come up. We use them to describe how vertically integrated a company is – in other words how much of a watch is actually made by the company whose name is on the dial, rather than purchased from outside suppliers. Many a watch guy will say that, everything else being equal, the more in-house the better. When thinking about high degrees of vertical integration in the watch industry, the two brands at the very top of the ladder are Rolex and Seiko. However, arguably just one rung down on that ladder is Parmigiani Fleurier. HODINKEE took a trip to the beautiful town of Fleurier in Switzerland's Val-de-Travers to learn more. 1 OF 34 Fleurier, Val-de-Travers History Parmigiani Fleurier's namesake, Michel Parmigiani, is a world-renowned horological restoration specialist. He got his start in restoration work during the quartz crisis of the 197
Omega SMP 300m: Real or Fake
I'm wondering if I made a mistake: I bought a Seamaster Pro 300m 2250.80.00 off eBay. What wasn't advertised was there were no boxes, cards, manual, nada - just the watch. I've had one before and it looks real, but a couple of things came up as red flags. first it was advertised to fit an 8 wrist (I have a 7 1/2 and it's tight). This could be an honest mistake, so I'll that one go. Then I notice that after wearing it for a day, it was stopping when I took it off and let it sit for a few hours. It's supposed to have a 44 hour power reserve. Then I started looking at the back and there is no serial number. This could have been filed off as grey market dealers were doing that for a while. No red dot but I don't know if they were on this model. I don't recall from the one I used to own (that came from Watchmaxx and had everything but the warranty card). Also, the little imprinted diver helmet or whatever is not there. I saw another 300m on eBay that didn't have this emblem, so again, I don'
