Reflecting On The Jaeger - LeCoultre Calibre 101 Movement - World's Smallest
Please enjoy the original article below by established watch writer Meehna Goldsmith. She contributes to publications such as Robb Report, International Watch, Watch Journal, among others, as well as aBlogtoReadwatches-dealer. You can visit her on her website meehnagoldsmithwatches-dealer.For those stateside, the year 1929 holds dark memories of the disastrous plunge of the U.S. stock market. However, across the world in the Swiss workshops of Jaeger LeCoultre, the year 1929 is a cause for celebration: it marks the birthday of the iconic Calibre 101.At its debut, the Calibre 101 set the record for the world's smallest movement and 81 years later in 2010, it still holds this honor [Ed. Sinn 356 Review
We've covered Sinn plenty in the past, so most of our readers already know the spiel when it comes to this German favorite. But outside of their line of rugged over-engineered mechanical wonders, Sinn is also known for producing some fantastic low-tech entry-level watches like the 556, the recent 104, and the discontinued 656. Most who handle these timepieces would agree that their level of finish puts other brands selling similarly priced watches to shame. However, none of these hold a candle to my favorite timepiece in their more affordable line-up, the Sinn 356 PILOT chronograph. In many ways, the 356 is everything one could hope for in a military-inspired tool watch, which shouldn't come as a shock since the design is reminiscent of a pilot chronograph favorite, the IWC 3706. There are a number of variants in the 356 line: the 356 Sa with sapphire crystal, the 356 PILOT UTC with, you guessed it, a UTC complication, the 356 Sa GR with power reserve indicator, and the 356 Sa PILOT II
Royal Oak Polishing Question
Hey everybody. While my 15300 is off at the AP service center, I was thinking about their refinishing service. Along with my free repair they offered to do a refinishing of case and bracelet for around $200. I think I'm going to decline this option since it is in pretty good shape, but it got me thinking about it anyway. When AP does the refinish, will it take some of the awesome sharp edges off or is AP so good that it really will look like new. I have heard that you can only polish a royal oak 3-4 times, so is the difference visible after every polish? Interested to hear from others who have had this service done. Thanks!Justin
