Watches NEWS
BEST FROM: watches-dealer & Friends May 8, 2015
Just about every complication or feature in wristwatches was?born out of a real need. Minute repeaters were useful for telling time in the dark, whereas GMT watches let their wearers?easily track time in multiple timezones. Likewise, luminescent material C such as SuperLuminova C was invented to improve night-time legibility of watches. And when it comes to night time legibility, micro gas tubes filled with tritium are unbeatable because they are self-charging (meaning they do not need to be charged by a light source to glow) and can glow on their?own for up to two decades or more. This month, we pay a unique?visit to the workshops of MB Microtec, the world's only?supplier of micro gas tubes to watch brands, to see how these tiny self-illuminating tubes are made.Speaking of micro gas tubes, Ball is probably the high-end watch brand most famous for using them. In fact, the use of these tubes has?become synonymous with the brand. But micro gas tubes aside, Ball is also?well known for mak

Should I add a 5196J (sorry i made a mistake in the reference in my previous post)
Hi all, as you may have seen from a previous discussion, I currently have the 3738G, 5164, 5146G slate, 5172. Last month, i was about to do a trade to upgrade to a 5960P. But after some hesitations, i didnt do the trade. My wife thinks the 5960P grey is quite flashy and I finally preferred keeping my existing ones then to trade in 2 of them for the 5960. The black 5960P is not something i like. Deep down, I have always fancied the 5196J. When I had only 1 Patek a long while ago, i was contemplating to get the 5196J but decided to buy the others because the 5196 seems to be a common Calatrava not worth spending the money on. But over the years, whenever I see one, it makes my heart race. Does it make sense to add the Calatrava to my existing collection? What do you think of this model? I am not considering any other brands (VC, Lange, Breguet, Blancpain, etc) nor any other models in the Patek collection. Thank you all for any inputs you may have.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
