Bring a Loupe: A Rare Speedmaster 'Ed White,' A Gorgeous Heuer Carrera, An Underestimated Rolex Oysterquartz, And More
This week, Bring A Loupe covers some iconic vintage pieces, but also some others flying more under the radar. Among the obvious choices, you can find an early Speedmaster, a great Heuer Carrera, and a promising Universal Geneve Polerouter Sub. There are also some watches that you probably expected less, including a quartz-powered Rolex and a Movado Datron relying on the mythical El Primero movement. This is your Bring A Loupe for February 5, 2016. An Omega Speedmaster 'Ed White' Reference 105.003-64, And Why It Matters 1 OF 12 Let's start with the reason behind this Speedy's nickname: the astronaut Ed White actually wore a reference 105.003 during the Gemini IV mission when he became the first American to space-walk, in June 1965. Then, you should definitely look at our Reference Points on the Omega Speedmaster for more info on why this early Speedy is so special. The reference 105.003 was indeed the last of the non "Professional" dials, t
Hands-On: The New Patek Philippe Nautilus In Rose Gold Reference 5711R (Live Pics, Pricing, Availability)
Patek Philippe's showing at Baselworld 2015 was, in my belief, its strongest in years. We saw them show absolutely stunning updates to the 5170G (black dial, oversized breguet, leaf hands make a world of difference) and 5270 (now available in rose, and no more chin on existing g models). We also saw perhaps the best watch Patek has made since the 5970P in the 5370P – a platinum split seconds chronograph with a black enamel dial. OK, they also brought out the least Patek watch they've ever made in the 5524G but we've already covered that craziness here. One piece from Basel that we haven't talked about yet and is just now hitting authorized dealers is the new Nautilus 5711 in rose gold. 1 OF 6 The 5711 in solid rose gold is a watch that I bet many of you probably thought already existed – and it did, just without a gold bracelet. And if you know anything about Genta designs, these watches are simply incomplete if not on a bracelet. So, a 5711 in
PAM 351 vs 422-- help me pick my first PAM!
Demographic/Lifestyle InfoMale, 34 years old6'2, 215lbs, muscular/athletic build, always have facial hair of some kindWrist size is around 8.25. Currently at a little less as I'm recovering from shoulder surgery and just got out of a brace for 4 week where my arm did nothing at all, so my wrist size has atrophied.Work in casual environments, suit up rarely, always wear shirtsleeves rolled up (for size/thickness consideration)Style-wise, I tend toward refined casual classics-- very little black, mostly classic menswear colors of navy, white, grey, olive, burgundy, and various shades of blue. Live in Southern California. Typical cool-weather look is well-fitted/tapered jeans, Alden shell cordovan shoes, OCBD in blue/white. Warm weather, swap shorts for jeans and Quoddy bluchers for heavy Alden shoes.Current Watch CollectionRolex SubC, No Date (40mm)Orient Polaris GMT (executive/semi-dress, white face/blue hands, currently on a Staib heavy mesh) (42mm)Deep Blue Master 1000 Automatic, blue
Rolex AD Price question
I have seen on the Rolex website the submariner 114060 advertised for ?5,250 yet the same 2018 model for sale on eBay for ?5,500+ Up to ?6,000 hope this doesnt sound like a silly question but do dealers actually sell them for ?5,250 or will they be more expensive in store.
