Yet another box arrived from Jim at Continental
It's the watch I ordered from Jim three months ago. Mine is the first to arrive of the three he had on order.I'm thinking of having the unveiling at the ATL GTG on Saturday. Our official ATL GTG photographer (Bill, gaopa) can then post photos on the forum.
Speedy Redux? Just don't.
The only watch ever that quit working while on my wrist for no apparent reason is that unhealthy combination of a cheap Eta ticker with a non-fitting chrono module. I've talked to several very knowledgeable guys within the trade (who downright refused to try servicing it), and it basically comes down to the unfortunate facts I'm quoting here from another website, as this is the last effort I make regarding an Omega (Obviously Mechanical Garbage) Automatic Redux: Stay away, pals. First Omega in Space - finally
Back in 2006, I was able to obtain a set of original NOS CK 2998 hands and a friend gave me a cal 861 movement. The plan was to assemble my second project watch which was to be a commemorative of Wally Schirra's Mercury-Atlas 8 flight.I even designed a special case back but unlike the Omega design (which isn't that bad), I used the flight patch logo of Sigma 7 in the center with this wording around the edge: THE FIRST - SPEEDMASTER - IN SPACE - SCHIRRA - MERCURY-ATLAS 8 - OCT. 3, 1962.Here is a photo of the first attempt to fabricate the back:Circumstances precluded completion of my project but I am more than pleased with Omega's upcoming release. I have already placed my order.Fr. John?
BLNR or Daytona?
Have suddenly come upon the chance to get either one of these two at a retail price.Which one will be a better purchase in terms of long term value and 'iconic'ness?I have 2 rolexes right now - a sub date ceramic, and a vintage red sub.
