A Week On The Wrist: The Longines Heritage Military COSD
Longines has been a Value Proposition favorite for very good reasons: thanks to their history, they have a pretty fantastic repertoire of great designs and historically important watches on which to draw, and the Heritage Longines watches are such an inexhaustible supply of great looking, reasonably priced vintage watches that I’ve often been tempted to just do the whole collection in one go and save you the trouble of reading a dozen different stories. However, sometimes a watch really is worth a stand-alone look-see, and the Heritage Military COSD is one of them. 1 OF 8 The short version of the story is that the Military COSD is based on a watch issued to the British military – in particular, paratroopers – during the Second World War. As such it looks to have been a very, very straightforward timepiece, designed for two objectives: economy, and sturdiness. 5146 update?
I've decided to purchase both a 5711/1A and a 5146G (creme), though plan to space out the purchases to spread out the cost and to appreciate/savor each individually.I'm itching for a 5146, but what gives me pause is that it has been out for a while so could be due for an update. If it will be updated in a year or two, I'd love to be able to decide between the two versions rather than regret having bought the old version recently. Therefore, I'm leaning towards getting the 5711 and waiting on the 5146, but would appreciate any thoughts, particularly on the likely update cycle for the 5146.
Poll: New acquisition input
First, I'd just like to say this: The new TRF Patek forum has the same impact as the Rolex discussion forums. Serious case of what I call Watch Acquisition Syndrome (WAS). We all need help and this is the most dysfunctional group therapy session ever. Anyway, I want to get some input on my next PP purchase.I'm looking at the following:* 5140P or J: I fear it is too close in appearance to my 5146P, which I absolutely love and am unlikely to get rid of (among the reasons is the beautiful dial finish/color, unique to that model). But I love the watch for its functionality.* 5960P (gray dial): A modern PP icon. Beautiful. Some people say, Well the chronograph function is useless to most. Get a Patek 5205. No. I don't care. I'll use it to time eggs or something.Champagne problems for sure. Options I've discarded:* 5270G: Amazing watch. Totally different price point. Would be difficult to justify to my fiance and to a certain extent, myself. I'm relatively young (32), and something tells me
Fresh oyster
Just arrived straight from 1982, first OQ of the collection and worried it might be the start of a new habit.
