Jaeger-LeCoultre is auctioning Prototype N1 of the Memovox Tribute to Deep Sea LeCoultre Spcial Amrique 1959 commemorative edition watch. The auction provides devotees with the opportunity to acquire an exceptional piece while contributing to the protection of an endangered marine site. Proceeds from the sale will be entirely donated to the Malpelo Flora and Fauna Sanctuary located 500 kilometers off the Colombian coast, in the Pacific Ocean. Inspired by the famous 1959 Geophysic model, developed by Jaeger-LeCoultre at the request of the first scuba diving enthusiasts in the United States, the Memovox Tribute to Deep Sea LeCoultre Spcial Amrique 1959 is a contemporary re-edition of this historic timepiece. Vacheron Constantin Historiques Aronde 1954
This newcomer to the Historiques collection is inspired by a model created during the post-war years. Its pink gold 31.2 x 44. 55mm case embodies a complex construction. Aronde is an Old French word for a swallow's wings, and it refers to the original double-rounded curve unfurling almost like wings along the case flanks. The opaline silvered dial is adorned with a fine hand-guilloch. Find pricing and wallpaper inside. This distinctive piece with a vintage spirit is powered by Calibre 1400 AS, a mechanical hand-wound movement, bearing the Hallmark of Geneva, developed and manufactured in-house by Vacheron Constantin. This piece has a style all its own, and it harks back to the days when a successful writer, artist, or other creative individual might express their position through the timepiece on their wrist. The USA retail price is $26,200.Technical data appears below the images, which may be enlarged with a click. Hands-On: The Cartier Hypnose
This year at SIHH we saw a lot of releases from Cartier. The Drive for men was big news, but one new release you may not have seen yet is the Cartier Hypnose. This collection is the latest addition to Cartier's women's line. While the oval case shape is not new for Cartier, they have managed to reinvent it in fresh and modern way. 1 OF 8 First, a little background on the Hypnose and its shape. Although this is a “new” watch, it is by no means a new design for Cartier. The oval design was first created by Louis Cartier in 1912, and the the oval-form watch was later put into production in 1956. The design was recognizable by its balanced oval shape and the bulbous nature of the the bezel. Originally available with a bracelet (notably an oval-linked version) or strap, it was the ideal ladies' watch – and featured a caliber 495 movement produced by LeCoultre, which was back-wound to conceal the crown and preserve the design (something that is pra
President Kennedy's Omega
Yesterday, I stopped by the Omega boutique at the Beverly Center in Los Angeles. I took a long look at the new Omega '57 Speedmaster. Then, while chatting with the staff about Omega, I asked about the watch Omega made a few years ago which replicated the Omega worn by President Kennedy. I learned that Omega made just 261 of these watches. Moments later, I was looking at 221.It is a pure dress watch, of the old school. No second hand. No date. Almost weightless on its caiman strap. The movement is Omega's own calibre 2006, manual winding with a power reserve of 40 hours. The elegant simplicity of the watch spoke to me, and, of course, its history. Given to him by a friend, President Kennedy wore his Omega Ultra Thin often, including during his inauguration. I have long had an affinity for Omega, since childhood when I stood by my father's side as he purchased a Speedmaster Professional, a watch I still wear. I'd never owned a watch such as this, however. So, despite the hefty p
