Watch Complications: A Brief History Of Useful To Useless
It seems these days, that in order to get truly noticed in this crowded watch market, the watch companies have taken the complication pact to boldly go where no one has gone before. It seems that the one-upmanship of each new watch release keeps breaking the sound barrier of mechanical complications : coaxial; tourbillion; moon phase; fly backs; geographic world time; minute repeater; perpetual calendars; split second chronograph; jumping hours; spitting frogs; dancing Bears; Topo Gigio. I'm ready to throw in the towel and wave the white flag I'm finally finding these complications to be unreadable, overkill, distracting, and above all, really get in the way of what a watch is supposed to dotell you the time.Of course, I must take off my hat and bow down to the gods of mechanical watch design who had the vision and conceptual ability to dream these mechanical wonders up, and actually bring them to reality in a finished product. About to purchase a 317... advice...?
HelloI have been offered an N Serial 317 which I would like to purchase... any advice at what price should be a good buy? it looks excellent condition... Any reliability issues? How serviceable are they?Anything else I should look for? Thanks!JC
Which would you buy first (Daytona or DD)?
As I narrow down to my top two favorites, I think over the next few years I'd like to buy a Platinum DD (36mm) and WG Daytona with the blue dial. It looks like an older Plt DD can be purchased for about the same price as the relatively new Daytona right now. So, outside of personal preference, is there a reason to chose one over the other right now, with the assumption that I'll buy the other one in a few years? For what its worth, I'll probably never feel comfortable paying full retail for a brand new platinum DD.
Could the 16613 Bluesy become a classic?
The 16613 blue got a lot of attention and was somehow difficult to find back in 2004-2005 at least in some locations. Would this watch become a classic? I know there are lots of them around which could make it hard to become a classic piece. From what I see they haven't lost any value for the most part and still appears to be quite desirable.
Datejust 116200: how many turns of the stem to wind?
When you've not worn your Datejust for a few days and need to reset the time/date and wind the watch, how many turns of the stem do you usually do?
