Hands-On: The 1950s Audemars Piguet Perpetual Calendar Reference 5516 For Sale At Christie's Nex
I don't know how many times I've admitted this, but I dream of being a vintage Audemars Piguet collector. The watches are so rare, so beautiful, so special, and until recently, completely under the radar. Now they are getting a little more attention – and a great triple calendar chronograph just sold for serious money at Christie's Geneva – but that doesn't mean the world at large has taken notice. And that is why I am writing this article today. A truly world-class watch is coming up for sale next week, and I want to make sure the collecting world at large takes note. It's an Audemars Piguet, from the 1950s, with a full perpetual calendar, two-tone dial, and leap year indicator. It is one of nine ever made, and it just might be the best watch for sale this season. 1 OF 6 Reference 5516 was made in nine examples, six of which feature the moonphase at 6 o'clock. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Grey Themes 25721TI
I saw a pretty nice looking one of these at Chuan Watch in Singapore last night, and I have to confess that I'm quite tempted. If you're really interested, go here: chuanwatch/products/9663-...es-25721T.htmlWhat I would like to know is, does anyone know how much this watch retailed at when brand new, preferably in UK sterling? And, providing I'm not breaking any forum rules in asking this, is the price (which they have indicated that they will discount) fair and reasonable?
5131R & 5575G Photoshoot
Recently had a get together over coffee with a fellow Patek owner. Took a few pictures of his 5131R and 5575G alongside my own 5131R.Quite astounding how different the 5131R's are from each other. Mine is a 2015 model and his a 2016 version so the city rings differ.Aside from the actual words and the huge variation in the cloisonn enamel itself there are also quite a few other differences - care to play spot the differences?
Buying YG - so 16618 or 116618?
Both have design elements I like - and dislike. Hard to sanction which one. I shall choose one, though. :)Images by Ocrolexguy.
Would you replace this bezel?
All,I think it is time to send my Sub in for service. While I think it is in great overall shape, it has a small scratch on the bezel and a crack in the “pip” at the top of the bezel. Would you have this replaced and if so, any idea what I would be looking at for a price?
