Christophe Claret, known for creating complicated timepieces with tourbillons and repeater mechanisms, has released his most ambitious such model yet, called the Soprano. The watch’s signature features are its 60-second tourbillon, stepped “Charles X” bridges made of sapphire, and a musically accurate four-note minute repeater striking Westminster chimes on cathedral gongs.A traditional minute repeater tells the time audibly with two notes created from two small hammers striking two gongs: one for the hours, one for the minutes and a combination of the two for the quarter hours. A more complex type is the Clarion repeater, with three notes that can play a simple melody for the quarters. A few weeks ago we took a look at the Maranez Layan, a brass (yes, brass) cushioned case watch with familiar but classic looks, decent components and a hard to resist price of $250. Today, we're going to take a detailed look at the Layan's more robust sibling, the limited edition 1000M Racha. The Racha has several stand out features that make it stand out from the heard of dive watches falling in the under $1000 range. To name a few; it has a mighty water resistance of 1000M (which we assume has been tested by the brand), it has a proven and reliable Miyota 9015 automatic movement at its heart, it has a thick domed sapphire crystal, and handful of extra straps and perhaps most interestingly, two interchangeable bezels. For $599 plus $50 shipping, the watch offers a lot of value. That being said, the case and dial designs are very common. GMT... TT vs TT...
GMT is at the top of my want list right now and can't decide, need your guys help... do I go with the older 116713LN (yg/ss/black dial/green text + gmt hand) or the newer 126711CHNR Rootbeer? I'm genuinely torn as the 116713LN was something I'd wanted for ages- I just love that green text and gmt hand against the black dial-, but the new Rootbeer has seriously piqued my interest now- I love black and brown. At first I wasn't sure about everose (rose gold) with stainless, but it has really grown on me, plus I don't think the brown/black bezel would work with yellow gold. My dream GMT is the 116718LN, but is much past my budget for the time being... wonder what sort of discount an AD could offer on that one... Anyways, help me decide, guys! FWIW, I was told October for the new TT GMT- I'm happy to wait until then if that's the one I decide on... as of right now it's a perfect 50/50, they're both so great!
