Entry Level Nivrel Grand Guilloche Watch Is A Perfect Gateway To Fine Watch Appreciation
A lot of the time people ask me for advice on buying a watch. Be it for themselves, a loved one, or maybe even a child. I do my best to counsel the, but it is hard to instill the passion I have for watches to someone who is just getting their feet wet in the area of horological enthusiasm. The best approach is to get a watch that is affordable, and allows you to appreciate the complexities and refinement of traditional watch making. Enter this original German Nivrel Grand Guilloche watch. I say 'original' because this watch has subsequently been updated a bit, and this is the original model, but I would argue it is nicer than the update (which is pictured below). The retail on a watch like this is $600-$700. This particular model can be had for $500 or less (with some bargaining) on eBay right now. So only one lucky person will get to have this specific watch.Nivrel is a line that offers sub-$1000 watches to ones that in the many thousands. This means they have the know how to create s
Introducing The MB&F Megawind, A New Take On The HM3 (Live Pics)
Horological Machine No.3, or HM3, is one of MB&F's most instantly recognizable creations. It has been released in many variations over the years, including the popular Frog editions and a collaboration with Stepan Sarpaneva, but today we have another HM3 variant for you, the Megawind. More than a few small changes have been made from the original and we've got all the details for you here. 2 OF 12 The large rotor gives the Megawind its name First off, as you might guess from the name, the winding rotor takes center stage in the Megawind. The open sapphire window displays the massive battle-axe-shaped winding rotor and balance wheel, forgoing the date complication on the original HM3. This rotor was originally conceived by Stepan Sarpaneva and is what MB&F call a "mystery rotor" because it appears?symmetrical?but still spins properly like an?asymmetrical?rotor - this symmetry is really an optical illusion as mass has been shaved off the underside of the blade on one s
HODINKEE Events: View The 2011 Harry Winston Basel Collection In NYC....Including Opus Eleven
Click to view inviteHarry Winston had a really strong showing at Basel this year, and we're not even talking about the undisputed star of the show, the Opus Eleven.? You can tell the brand is paying a lot of attention to timepieces, and as CEO Frdric de Narp said in his presentation to us, it's amazing to see what Harry Winston has accomplished in only 20 years of watchmaking. The Harry Winston 2011 collection is expansive, and while the Opus is surely the focal point, the rest of the pieces are rather refined, and supremely elegant.? We'll be highlighting a few of them over the coming weeks, but in the mean time, we would like to invite you to view the entire collection in New York City. The full Harry Winston collection will be on display on Wednesday April 27 and Thursday April 28 at the HW boutique on 5th ave from 10am-6pm both days. If you are interested in coming in to see it, send a note to RSVP@HarryWinston and let them know when you'll be there.? We promise you, you won't want
16600 for BBB ETA...
I'm thinking of sending my 16600 into the sea and replacing it with a Tudor Black Bay Black ETA. Probably can't keep both. Talk me out of it...
16610LV Price Questions
Evening Team,I'm keen on this watch, and would be grateful to hear from LV owners and others what they think is a good price in the current market. I ask because, according to Chrono24 and Watchrecon, they retail for anything between $8-25k, with the average being around the $10-11k mark. I note that later M models can be picked up for around $15k new and unworn, and earlier models (including Flat Four models) can be found for $17-25k unworn. What with the SS Sky Dweller being a difficult watch to find, I'm debating the merits of parking that one for a time and getting the LV instead. They are much easier to find, and completely fabulous. For a watch with box and papers in mint condition, what is the most you'd pay? Would you pay more and get one new and unworn?I intend to keep it, and would look after it.Best,TA
