Hands-On: The Patek Philippe Reference 5930G World Time Chronograph (Live Pics + Thoughts)
Patek Philippe's biggest announcement at Baselworld 2016 was a new world time chronograph: the reference 5930. We had a chance to spend some time with it in the hand, and on the wrist, and we've formulated some first impressions of this new flagship complicated watch from one of the world's most famous, and most intensely scrutinized, luxury watch companies. 1 OF 7 We've already talked a bit about the history of the movement in the new reference 5930, so we'll just recap briefly: the base caliber is the self-winding chronograph caliber CH 28-520, which was first used by Patek Philippe in the annual calendar chronograph 5960P (P for platinum) in 2006. This was Patek's first ever in-house self-winding chronograph, and the base movement, according to Patek, is 33 mm x 4.9 mm (that is, the chronograph mechanism alone, absent the annual calendar plate). A modern, stainless "Panda" alternative?
So was perusing watches on the internet (what else is new), and came across this:.omegawatches/gents/sp...32330404004001A relative bargain when compared with vintage stainless Pandas, or the modern white gold rendition, as it can easily be had for under $2,500, but still a damn fine watch.
Does Patek still make the 5066?
I am currently saving up for my first Patek (well either a patek or royal oak) but I am really leaning towards a 5066. I see the price list posted above that shows the model but it is not on there website. Do Ad's still carry this model?I have scrawny wrists so I think the 5066 would be a perfect fit for me..I also wanted to know if AD's do any dealing on this model if it is still available?Does anyone have a pre-loved one that the would like to part with?
Happy camper...
Nothing I really like. I'd gone for a steel 36mm with new movement but they are only launching it in two-tone watches. The GMT is a bit too showy, but I may warm up to it. Rather uneventful year.
