My First Grail Watch: Mikael Sandstr?m
Welcome back to an original watches-dealer feature, "My First Grail Watch." In this series, we ask prominent people in the watch industry about the first timepiece that they lusted after. Today, we are speaking with Mikael Sandstr?m, the engineer who is now at the helm of Halda, the company that created his first grail watch - well before he owned the company.watches-dealer (ABTW): Who are you, and what is your relationship to the watch industry?Mikael Sandstr?m : I am an engineer, and I have had the pleasure to be in the industry for over 25 years, developing watches. Today, I am the owner and CEO of Halda Watch Co. that started back in 1887.ABTW: When did your fascination with watches start?Mikael Sandstr?m : I have always been fascinated in fine mechanics. This fascination is especially focused on watches, which I find to be the ultimate - and most impressive - example of a small mechanical machine. My passion for watches, in combination with my education as an engineer, set off a d
Parmigiani Tonda 1950 Watch
I quite like this watch even though it is relatively simple. Just good old fashioned good looks - Parmigiani style. Really a good formal watch for their collection. Coming in gold, it has an in-house made movement and quite a soothing style if you ask me.Read my full article on the Parmigiani Tonda 1950 watch at Haute Living here.
Vintage AP Jumbo...what about Gold?
I love the AP jumbo. And since I've now added a modern Nautilus to my collection (5712/1A), I feel that the 15202 might just be a bit too similar in look and styling. I know that many of you own both and I agree that it's a different look, but it's still a steel, blue dialled, Genta watch from the modern era. So I'm thinking of going towards the vintage side of things. Either a 5402, or now my consideration Gold! See the below pic of an available gold 5402 from the second series of gold jumbos. The gold 5402's don't seem to be as much of a price delta as current model steel to gold. I know that the original steel jumbo is THE vintage AP to own. But what about gold? Love the design, love the styling, love the look, I even love the grey dial in this configuration. And for me, a gold watch adds something I won't have in my collection after I sell my IWC Portuguese. What do you diehard Jumbo fans think?
Oyster Bracelet and case question.
Hi,I just acquired a 2010 V series Submariner and I had a few questions. It appears to me that the case weight and bracelet weight has changed from what I remembered and not too happy about this. Can someone tell me if the 91350 bracelet was in fact heavier than the 92350? What year did the 92350 start in production? Also I do not know the case numbers but do you think the case were made lighter as well, want to get an idea before contacting Rolex about my thoughts. Thanks!
Wasn't really a DJ guy until I saw this watch (116234), anyone wear one as a daily?
Since becoming a Rolex fan, my interests have mainly been with the SS sports models (14060, 16710, and now BLNR). It's not that I disliked the DJ's, just wasn't drawn to them the way I was with the Subs and GMTs. But I stumbled across this old Hodinkee article reviewing the 116234. The particular combination chosen by Hodinkee here is stunning -- champagne dial, fluted bezel, Oyster bracelet. Does anyone here have this watch? How about wearing it as a daily?Link to article
