Watches NEWS
Hands-On: The IWC Portugieser Chronograph Reference 3714
If you’ve been following IWC for the last few years, you know that they’ve taken a somewhat different tack in introducing new watches at the annual SIHH exhibition in Geneva – rather than exert themselves to create new watches across several collections, as is the norm, the firm’s been concentrating on a single collection per year. This year was the Year of the Portugieser, and there were quite a few new watches introduced as this was also the year that IWC chose to begin launching a series of new in-house movements. However, there was one reference that remained unchanged: the Portugieser Chronograph Reference 3714. The watch first saw the light of day in the 1990s, following on from the design of the Portuguese rattrapante chronograph that preceded it. Remarkably, it’s persisted for nearly 20 years, quite literally completely unchanged except for some occasional updates to the available colors for the dials and hands, as one of the most successful
Patek Golf Outing
Anyone else get invited to the Patek golf outing at Torrey Pines? Got invited by my AD and wanted to see if anyone else from the forum is going as well. Should be fun!
Aquanaut 5167 on Leather
ive received a few pm's and other requests about putting an aquanaut on a leather strap or nato. while mine spends most of its time on the OEM rubber strap, i do find that leather and nato options can work, at least just to change things up a bit from time to time. i know some purists will scoff at this, but just figured id post some options for those thinking about making a switch. below are pics of my 5167 on the rubber strap, on black leather, on grey leather, on an admiralty grey nato, and on a custom croc strap with cream stitching i had made, which integrates into the clasp.

In praise of the Rolex Half Link
I bought my 116000 OP around 18-months ago on the strength of the clean blue dial, simple 3-6-9 markers and brushed case/ bracelet. However, out of the box it was always just that bit too tight. An extra link was too much so it didn't get too much wrist time - even though when it did I was getting almost +/-0 spd on accuracy. The other week I saw Watchfinder advertising the Rolex Half Link on eBay as also fitting the OP 116000 so took the plunge for 25.00.What a difference it makes to the comfort of the watch on the wrist. What puzzles me is quite why Rolex won't make it available via AD's to their customers or include it as standard on the OP without the EasyLink?10/10 to the Watchfinder team for their help in getting me sorted out!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
