Survey Shows Affluent Losing Confidence in U.S. Economy
The Unity Marketing Luxury Consumption Index took its steepest quarterly plunge since the recession began, falling 16.8 points to 66 points in the second quarter. This is significantly lower than the previous quarter’s 82.8 points. The LCI currently stands close to the level attained at the onset of the Great Recession. Unity Marketing’s LCI is considered to be a leading indicator of the economic activity among affluent households. The survey of 1,272 consumers with an average income of $301,000 and an average net worth of $856,000 was conducted July 6-13.Corresponding to the decline in luxury consumer confidence, the average amount spent by affluent consumers on luxury goods and services in the second quarter declined by 8.4 percent from the first quarter and dropped 18.4 percent year on year.However it’s not all doom and gloom for luxury retailers. At last year’s Concours D’Elegance in Pebble Beach, Jaguar announced plans to build six lightweight E-type coupes, exactly as they would have been produced in 1963. The original "Special GT E-type" project called for 18 cars to be built, though just 12 were actually finished. Now, more than 50 years later, the remaining cars will be hand-made and delivered bearing the six dormant serial numbers. To honor the event, Jaguar teamed up with Bremont to offer a watch to the buyers of these cars, each signed with the individual serial and engine numbers on the dial. I recently fell in love with the Rolex Daytona 116515 chocolate face.I have a Panerai 372 and a AP ROO Panda on bracelet that I interchange daily. I will not get rid of my Panerai because it is the perfect daily on most occasions for me. I am thinking about trading in my 3 month old ROO for this Daytona. What do you guys think? Any help or insights wold be appreciated.
