Bring a Loupe: Two Vintage Omega Speedmasters, A Larger Patek Calatrava, A Great Futurematic From Ja
This week, Bring A Loupe covers some of the most emblematic wristwatches ever made – watches that have become symbols of the companies that made them. We're starting with a couple of vintage Speedmasters, and you will also see a Futurematic from Jaeger-LeCoultre as well as a Cricket from Vulcain, both technically advanced watches for their time. Finally, Bidder Beware returns with two watches that you should absolutely not buy on eBay today (or ever). This is your Bring A Loupe for January 15, 2016. An Omega Speedmaster Reference 2915-3, AKA The Transitional 1 OF 12 The Reference 2915 was the first Speedmaster ever produced, over a three-year span from 1957 onwards. As it often happens with vintage watches, it is also the most coveted and valuable of the Speedmasters; think for instance of the first GMT from Rolex or the first waterproof chronograph from Patek – both enjoy greater success with collectors than later models. Question on Reliability of AP
Hi,So I've heard/read quite many horror stories of the reliability of AP in general. However I'm thinking about getting a steel 15400 and a gold jumbo 15202 sometime down the line. My question is how reliable are the 3120 and 2121 movements? I understand they probably need to be serviced more often than say, a rolex, and will also be more expensive to service, both of which are fine by me. I am just worried/concerned with repeated services/malfunctions in short periods of time. I'm not a clumsy person and don't bang up my watch so I expect a service every 3-5 years but don't think I can go with AP if a significant percentage (say over 10%) of AP owners have experienced nightmares/disasters with their new AP watches (3120/2121 movements).Sorry if this isn't a good question but I'm trying to decide if I should stick to Rolex as AP's reliability or lack of, could be the potential deal breaker. Thanks very much
Just got my first Omega today! WOW!!
Just got my first Omega today. It's the Speedy Pro. 3570. This is my first high end time piece so it's quite a lot to take in. Not being from a wealthy background, it's quite a feeling of accomplishment to know I can afford something this nice. Shots to follow but just let me soak it in.Thank you to the users in a previous thread that steered me toward the 3570 vs the 50th patch.Special thanks to Fr. John for getting me in touch with his AD. Easiest transaction possible and fabulous service. Thanks!!
