Technical Perspective: Stopping The Whirlwind: Four Tourbillons With Stop Seconds, And Why That Matters
One of the single most important features of watches intended to keep very accurate time is the presence of a stop seconds function. The single most important purpose of the tourbillon – as Breguet originally conceived it, certainly – is to make a watch more accurate. You would think therefore, in a rational universe, that you would see the tourbillon and a stop seconds function paired frequently, if not invariably . . . but you'd be wrong.First of all, let's talk tourbillon. The basic idea behind the tourbillon is pretty simple: it's a solution to a really old problem in watchmaking, which is that a watch will run very slightly faster, or slower, depending on what position it's in. This is mostly due to how gravity pulls on the balance and balance spring in different positions. For example, think of the balance, which has at its center the balance staff (a very, very thin steel pivot). The tips of the balance staff sit inside the holes of two jewels, and wh
Is it safe to wash my AP?
So I want to give my newly acquired APRO a wash under the tap with a small brush and liquid soap. I do this routine regularly with my Rolex's without any worries and they come out looking new and I want to include the AP in the bathing routine But I haven't seen any is it safe to wash/pool/beach/ threads for AP (with good reason, since they're expensive) so thought I'd ask since it's better to be safe than sorry. I know it has screw down crown so I'm guessing it's fine but I just want some reassurance from you guys.No plans to go to the beach with it though! The Hulk is on beach duty.ThanksM.
Omega TV Seamaster: Before & After
As promised here is the latest on my Omega TV Dial Seamaster c.1979 21J Auto Cal 1022 project watch.Crystal, crown, datewheel and gaskets were replaced with Omega OEM parts. Deep service. Runs within one or two seconds a day using Emerald Time as my standard. It's actually running more accurate then my Sea Dweller :D
I pulled the trigger...
I have decided to buy the 2531.80.00. The gentleman I delt with was very kind and answered all my questions and was honest about the watch so now its on its way via mail. Will post pics when I recieve it. 3 watches in 5 months...it hurts but its well worth it!
First Patek Philippe purchase tomorrow.... Excited
After owning Rolex, IWC and Breitling for many years I'm now taking the plunge to the dizzy heights with a 5712G-00..... This watch has blown me away by the looks and everything about it after trying it on my wrist the other week (your thoughts on this watch would be appreciated). This is to be paid with some of my late fathers inheritance money he left to me... He wasn't a watch man but i feel this is something i feel right to do.... any photos of yours out there would be nice to view in the meantime... Wish me luck entering my pin number tomorrow..
