Exotic Looks, Exotic Performance, Un-exotic PriceThe 2011 Lotus Evora
A few months ago I joined a group of journalists and pro driving instructors behind the wheels of several high-zoot sports cars at Laguna Seca racetrack, and on the 18 Mile Drive in Carmel, California. One stood out clearly from the rest C the Lotus Evora. Let’s take a look. The younger among you may know Lotus only through the Elise C a purpose-built track car that offers great fun in small doses, but you would not want to live with one every day. The Elise embodies Colin Chapman's twin virtues of simplicity and lightness, but these do not a comfortable car make. Modern niceties like sound insulation, suspension and storage space have been sacrificed at the altar of performance. The Evora, on the other hand, is a car made to live with.Where the Elise requires inelegant contortions to enter and exit, the Evora offers generous portals and slender sills. Once inside, dignity and spinal disks intact, words like spacious, comfortable, and even luxurious come to mind. The upscale surro
IWC Portofino Hand-Wound Monopusher Chronograph Watch
With the new IWC Portofino Hand-Wound Monopusher Chronograph, "IWC presents its first-ever model with an ingenious single push-button chronograph" for Watches & Wonders 2015 (essentially SIHH for Asia, taking place in Hong Kong this Fall). The timing of this?debut, perhaps not without a hint of irony, is fortunate, as it comes shortly after we have discussed at length this particular?complication in our recent "Why Monopusher Chronographs Are Primitive & A Brief History Of The Chronograph Watch Complication" feature article. With all that's been said there, but no prejudices on our mind, let's see how?this latest addition to the IWC Portofino line is new.Available in two?colorways C in 18k white gold with a dark, metallic brown dial and in 18k red gold with a silver?plated dial C the new IWC Portofino Hand-Wound Monopusher?Chronograph features IWC's in-house made?59360 caliber. At 45 millimeters wide, IWC?once again went for what probably is the largest diameter that could poss
MB&F HM3 "The Frog" Watch Hands-On
"Ribbit..." Here is the first derivative watch based on the MB&F Horological Machine # 3 (HM3) (which I wrote about here). While MB&F releases about one brand new watch each year, they also have special models based on their standard collection of Horological Machines. This watch will be known as the MB&F HM3 "The Frog." There are two versions of the watch - one in a darker, PVD black coated titanium with a green toned 22k gold automatic rotor (12 pieces), and a titanum version with a blue 22k gold automatic rotor (20 pieces). That is a total of 32 HM3 Frog watches in total. Both look pretty interesting, with this bug-eyed (I mean amphibian) eyed watch having no analogs in the watch world. Why the "Frog?" According the MB&F one of their customers said the two dome-like structures on the original HM3 looked like frog's eyes sticking out of water - as frogs enjoy being in water with their eyes exposed to look for prey. If you read my above article you'll see that while I a
Best way to bring deep black color to black rubber strap?
So the black rubber on the ROOs seem to start getting some white marks most noticeable in the tunnels on the straps after getting them wet. Is there a way to get rid of these white marks to get it back to the deep black color as when they are new? Thanks.
Does a Blue PO 42mm Exist?
I have seen this watch, and really like it! I seem to only find it in 45mm though which is too large for me.Is it possible that a 42mm version of this watch exists and I am just missing it? I have also seen a chrono, but pretty sure chronos are usually bigger cases so thats out of the question :bang head:Let me know, in the meantime here is some eye candy!
